Project-Based Learning in the graduation of engineers: a case study on the curricular experience

Resumo: | In the graduation of the engineer, the teaching strategies need to consider the structured professional profile, among others, through meaningful learning, collaborative work and problem solving. The main objective of this case study was to verify how the Project-Based Learning (PBL) contributed significantly to the graduation of engineers. During a semester, 14 students from seven undergraduate courses in engineering at the Universidade Federal de Itajubá – Campus Theodomiro Carneiro Santiago (Unifei), located in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, developed collective and collaborative activities aimed at answering a question: what situation bothered or incited curiosity within the University Campus? During the classes, individual and collective activities were carried out in order to organize and establish teams with common problem proposals. In the last week, after the projects were structured, all the students responded to an online form and 100% stated that they were able to integrate knowledge from different disciplines. In addition, 92.9% considered that the PBL allowed them to improve the way they learn. It is concluded that, for the graduation of engineers, strategies of active methodologies allow students to learn from meaningful activities and knowledge. |

El objetivo principal de este estudio de caso fue verificar cómo el Aprendizaje Basado en Proyectos (ABP) contribuyó significativamente a la formación de ingenieros. Durante un semestre, 14 estudiantes de siete carreras de Ingeniería de la Universidade Federal de Itajubá – Campus Theodomiro Carneiro Santiago (Unifei), ubicada en el estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil, desarrollaron actividades colectivas y colaborativas para responder a una pregunta: ¿Qué situación inquietaba o despertaba la curiosidad dentro del campus universitario? Durante las clases se realizaron actividades individuales y colectivas con el fin de organizar y conformar equipos con propuestas de problemas comunes. En la última semana, luego de estructurar los proyectos, todos los estudiantes respondieron a un formulario en línea y el 100% expresó que pudo integrar conocimientos de diferentes disciplinas. Además, el 92,9% consideró que el ABP les permitió mejorar la forma de aprender. Se concluye que, para la formación de ingenieros, las estrategias de metodologías activas permiten a los estudiantes aprender a partir de actividades y conocimientos significativos.Na formação do engenheiro, as estratégias de ensino precisam considerar o perfil profissional estruturado, entre outros, por aprendizagem significativa, trabalho colaborativo e solução de problemas. O principal objetivo deste estudo de caso foi verificar como a Aprendizagem Baseada em Projetos (ABP) contribuiu significativamente para a formação de engenheiros. Durante um semestre, 14 discentes de sete cursos de graduação em Engenharia da Universidade Federal de Itajubá – Câmpus Theodomiro Carneiro Santiago (Unifei), localizada no estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil, desenvolveram atividades coletivas e colaborativas com vistas a responder a um questionamento: qual situação incomodava ou incitava curiosidade dentro do Câmpus universitário? No decorrer das aulas, foram realizadas atividades individuais e coletivas com o intuito de se organizarem e estabelecerem equipes com propostas de problema em comum. Na última semana, após estruturados os projetos, todos os discentes responderam a um formulário on-line e 100% manifestaram que conseguiram integrar conhecimentos de diferentes disciplinas. Além disso, 92,9% consideraram que a ABP permitiu que aprimorassem a forma de aprender.
