Project Based Learning (PjBL) in engineering teaching: experience report on the discipline of Control Systems I at the Federal University of Mato Grosso

Resumo: The present work reports a proposal for the restructuring of the discipline of Control Systems I for undergraduate students of Control and automation engineering of UFMT. The discipline followed the traditional learning model and the new proposal contemplates the project based learning (PjBL). The objective of this experiment is to motivate students to become more central to the solution of real engineering problems, developing functional prototypes throughout the course. It is concluded that the applied proposal has great potential as a learning method and can also be applied in other engineering disciplines that involve theory and practice, since it increases the students' involvement with the project since their beginning. The idea was highly accepted by the students and the authors suggest questionnaires that evaluate students' learning to reduce traditional classes where the teacher was the sole source of knowledge and increase the students' active behavior.

La materia seguía el modelo tradicional bancario de aprendizaje y la nueva propuesta contempla la metodología activa basada en proyecto ABPj. El intento objetiva una mayor motivación de los alumnos, colocándolos como elementos centrales para la solución de problemas reales de ingeniería, como solucionar el problema de falta de laboratorios con equipos adecuados compatibles con el menú, y con el desarrollo de prototipos funcionales a lo largo del proceso Por supuesto. Se concluye que la propuesta aplicada tiene un gran potencial como método de aprendizaje y puede también aplicarse en otras disciplinas de ingeniería que involucran teoría y práctica, por aumentar la participación del graduado con el proyecto desde su elección. La idea tuvo gran aceptación por parte del alumnado y los autores sugieren cuestionarios que evalúen el aprendizaje de los mismos para disminuir las clases tradicionales donde el profesor era la única fuente del saber y aumentar el comportamiento activo de los estudiantes.O presente trabalho relata uma proposta de reestruturação da disciplina de Sistemas de controle I para graduandos de Engenharia de controle e automação e computação da UFMT. A matéria seguia o modelo tradicional bancário de aprendizagem e a nova proposta contempla a metodologia ativa baseada em projeto ABPj. A tentativa objetiva uma maior motivação dos alunos, colocando-os como elementos centrais para a solução de problemas reais de engenharia, como solucionar o problema de falta de laboratórios com equipamentos adequados compatíveis com a ementa, e com o desenvolvimento de protótipos funcionais ao longo do curso. Conclui-se que a proposta aplicada tem grande potencial como método de aprendizagem e pode também ser aplicada em demais disciplinas de engenharia que envolvam teoria e prática, por aumentar o envolvimento do graduando com o projeto desde a sua escolha.
