No tratamento do tema referente às relações entre epistemologia e teorias da educação, este artigo começa por identificar as diferentes teorias educacionais no âmbito das principais concepções de educação. A partir daí, destaca o caráter específico da teoria pedagógica, aborda as etapas históricas de seu desenvolvimento e examina as condições em que a pedagogia pode se constituir como uma teoria científica da educação. Por fim, considera como essa questão vem se manifestando na situação brasileira. Nesse contexto observa que o debate instaurado nos anos setenta sobre o estatuto epistemológico da pedagogia refluiu nos anos oitenta e noventa, cedendo lugar a uma mobilização cujo eixo foi a questão da reformulação dos cursos de formação dos profissionais da educação. O texto se encerra com um convite à retomada vigorosa do debate epistemológico, resgatando a longa e rica tradição da pedagogia como teoria da prática educativa.Abstract:In an approach of the topic concerning the relations between epistemology and education theories, this article starts with the identification of the different education theories within the sphere of the main conceptions of education. Then it brings a focus on the specific nature of the pedagogic theory, approaching the historical stages of its development, and examining the conditions in which pedagogy may be a scientific theory of education. Finally, it provides considerations on how this issue has been emerging in the Brazilian situation. In this context, it can be observed that the debate which raged in the seventies about the epistemological condition of pedagogy reappeared during the eighties and nineties, allowing for a mobilization whose axis was the reform of teacher education courses. The text ends with an invitation to the vigorous resuming of the epistemological debate, recovering the long and rich tradition of pedagogy as a theory of educational practice.Key words: Epistemology and education.
