Proposals to incorporate BIM in the Architecture and Urbanism course

Building Information Modeling (BIM) has been indicated as the Information and Communication Technology that is transforming the construction industry. However, surveys indicate that educational experiences of BIM process in Brazil are relatively new. Thus, there is a need to incorporate the possibilities offered by BIM during architecture and urbanism courses. Moreover, it is believed that this incorporation should go beyond the inclusion of disciplines aimed at teaching software. In this sense, this article presents part of the results of a master's research and aims to present possibilities offered by BIM in the teaching of architecture and urbanism. The propositions presented are based on: (1) theoretical foundation; (2) systematic literature review; (3) literature review without meta-analysis. The article presents an overview of the applicability of BIM in the teaching of compulsory architecture and urbanism contents, as well as possibilities little explored by teachers. We advocate for the inclusion of BIM in the teaching of construction, environmental comfort, history, geometric representation and design, in Architecture and Urbanism, and not just the creation of BIM disciplines in applied informatics. The results indicate that BIM can be applied in all required fields of the Architecture and Urbanism curriculum. Moreover, it was found, that even recent, the educational experiences indicate an advance in terms of exploring the possibilities offered by the BIM platform in teaching. It is noteworthy that this is an evolutionary process that demands the training of students and teachers, as well as investment in teaching infrastructure.
