The arithmetic teaching at schools in the state of Paraná during the First Republic

Resumo: This article is based on the historical-regional perspective, having as its object of study thearithmetic program for primary schools in the state of Paraná in operation during the first years of theRepublic. In order to understand the structure of the discipline, the school programs from theprovincial period, when the governments designed their education policies and defined the teachingcontents, had to be collected and analyzed. The objective was to know the definitions and theircomprehensiveness as well as to develop the levels of difficult in Arithmetic teaching. The qualitativemethod allowed for the analysis, the reflection and the interpretation of data collected from officialdocuments, reports and legislations, so as to try and build up the journey taken by the teaching of thisdiscipline at the schools, especially during the initial years of the Republic, when primary schools werecreated and education was organized in grades.

Para entender a estruturação da disciplina, recorreu-se ao levantamento dos programas escolares do período provincial, quando os governos traçavam suas políticas de educação e estabeleciam os ensinamentos escolares. O objetivo voltou-se para o conhecimento das determinações e sua abrangência, bem como para o desenvolvimento dos graus de dificuldades no ensino da Aritmética.
