Mathematical Modeling and semiotic representations: contributions to the development of algebraic thinking

Resumo: In this paper we propose to submit analyses and reflections on thepossibilities of incorporating modeling into mathematics, with a theory ofsemiotic representations. Our analysis includes a proposal for primary schools,dedicated to the development of algebraic thinking, mediated by mathematicalmodeling, experienced among a group of teachers during a course held inFaxinal do Céu, in the city of Pinhão, in the State of Paraná. We elected the stageof mathematical modeling to solve the problems posed through themes, as weknew we would need the knowledge of mathematical objects and theirconceptualizations as a consequence of the procedures and strategies listed insolving the problems, and that the problems could not be solved without them.We analyzed the solutions presented to the problems posed through themes andwe analyzed a theory of semiotic representations that contributes to theconceptualization and the development of algebraic thinking, because thedifferent records of representation mobilize operations of cognitive training,treatment and conversion, putting into play the phenomenon of semanticcongruence, responsible for a greater or lesser success of theseconceptualizations.

Analisamos uma proposta para o Ensino Fundamental, voltada ao desenvolvimento do pensamento algébrico, mediado pela Modelagem Matemática, vivenciada junto a um grupo de professores durante um curso realizado em Faxinal do Céu, no Município de Pinhão, no interior do Estado do Paraná. Elegemos a etapa da Modelagem Matemática, que se refere à resolução dos problemas colocados pelos temas, porque haverá a necessidade do conhecimento de objetos matemáticos e suas conceituações, como consequência dos procedimentos e das estratégias elencados para a solução dos problemas, sem os quais estes não poderão ser resolvidos.
