Resumo: | The article analyzes the textbook Geometria (Observação e Experiência) (Geometry: Observation andExperience), published in 1923 of Heitor Lyra da Silva's textbook for primary education. The objective of thisdocumentary research is to characterize the author's modernizing proposal by identifying elements thatapproximate or distance them from foreign references at the time, from the transfer of knowledge and itsinternational circulation. The keywords "observation and experience" characterize his teaching proposal forGeometry and are in line with pedagogical principles of French authors. Instead of exploring the freehanddrawing or geometric drawing, which was a nineteenth century bookmark, manual works are inserted, observed,explored in the initiation of the study of forms and the photographic images of places that help to approach theconcepts addressed are introduced. The author innovates by intercalating concepts of flat and spatial geometry,defending a French pedagogical approach of "concentric circles". |

O objetivo desta pesquisa de cunho documental é caracterizar a proposta modernizadora do autor, identificando elementos que a aproximem ou distanciem de referências estrangeiras em voga à época, tendo em conta a transferência de saberes e sua circulação internacional. As palavras-chave “observação e experiência” caracterizam sua proposta de ensino para a Geometria e estão em sintonia com princípios pedagógicos de autores franceses. Em lugar de explorar o desenho à mão livre ou o desenho geométrico, marca dos livros do século XIX, os trabalhos manuais são inseridos, observados, explorados na iniciação do aluno ao estudo das formas, e introduzidas as imagens fotográficas de lugares, que ajudam na abordagem de conceitos.
