Ethnomathematics and Indigenous School Education in the context of Paiter people

Resumo: | This article presents results of a research on mathematical knowledge of the Paiter indigenous people, held inthe Terra Indígena Sete de Setembro, located on the border of the states of Rondônia and Mato Grosso. It istheoretically based on the assumptions of ethnomathematics to reflect on the following research question: Whatare the mathematical knowledge of the Paiter people related to counting, measurements and geometry? Dataproduction was based on observations of traditional activities and interviews with older members of fourvillages of the Paiter people. The main results refer to numeric terms and geometric qualifiers, which wererecorded in the Paiter language and in Portuguese, creating a contextualization phrase. The results providesubsidies for the elaboration of new teaching materials, in the direction of the construction of an interculturalschool, which contemplates the knowledge and actions of the Paiter people, including their knowledge andmathematical practices. |

Fundamenta-se teoricamente em pressupostos da etnomatemática para refletir sobre a seguinte questão de pesquisa: Quais são os conhecimentos matemáticos do povo Paiter relacionados a contagem, medidas e geometria? A produção de dados baseou-se em observações de atividades tradicionais e entrevistas com membros mais velhos de quatro aldeias do povo Paiter. Os principais resultados referem-se a termos numéricos e qualificadores geométricos, que foram registrados na língua paiter e em português, criando-se uma frase de contextualização.
