Resumo: Afonso d'Escragnolle Taunay, during his professional trajectory, especially during his direction of the Museu Paulista, was strongly linked to the written press as well as to the publishing market. Perhaps this brought him closer to several artists working beyond oil paintings then found in museums and private collections. Many of these painters, even before the commissions they carried out for the Museu Paulista, already had extensive experience as illustrators, retouchers of photographs and documental draftsmen, with production aimed at a wider audience. This article is dedicated to exploring part of the paintings commissioned by these professionals for three rooms of the Museum opened in 1922, and how that choice highlighted another type of history painting.

Quizás esto lo acercó a varios artistas con actividades más allá de los óleos que luego se encuentran en museos y colecciones privadas. Muchos de estos pintores, incluso antes de los encargos que realizaron para el Museu Paulista, ya tenían una amplia experiencia como ilustradores, retocadores fotográficos y dibujantes de documentales, con producciones dirigidas a un público más amplio. El artículo está dedicado a explorar parte de las pinturas encargadas por estos profesionales para tres salas del Museo inaugurado en 1922, y como tal elección destacó otro tipo de pintura de historia.Afonso d'Escragnolle Taunay, durante sua trajetória profissional, em especial ao longo da gestão à frente do Museu Paulista, esteve fortemente relacionado com a imprensa escrita e o mercado editorial. Talvez isso o tenha aproximado de diversos artistas com atuação além de pinturas a óleo então encontradas em museus e coleções particulares. Muitos destes pintores, antes mesmo das encomendas que executaram para o Museu Paulista, já possuíam ampla experiência como ilustradores, retocadores de fotografias e desenhistas documentalistas, tendo produção voltada para público mais alargado.
