Memory and heritage: museum practices of an educational institution

Resumo: | This article presents the clipping of a long-term research about the educational processes in Baixada Fluminense. The focus is given to the work with the memory and appreciation of the Duque de Caxias’s Historical-Educational Heritage through the analysis of museum practices in the century-old Merity’s Regional School, currently called Doctor Álvaro Alberto Municipal Nursery School, developed throughout its history. The remaining collection of the school under the custody of CEPEMHEd and academic research on the history of the school were consulted. It starts from the understanding of the educational institution as a Memory Place (NORA, 1993); the expanded conception of heritage education (NAJJAR, 2010); and, from the notion of experience (THOMPSON, 2001). It is concluded that both the Regional Museum in its creation and in its current form represents the school projects undertaken in each historical juncture: at the beginning of the 20th century, linked to the regionalist project; and in the 21st century, referring to the right of memory. |

Este artículo presenta el corte de una investigación de largo recorrido sobre los procesos educativos en la Baixada Fluminense. Se enfoca el trabajo con la memoria y valoración del Patrimonio Histórico-Educativo de la ciudad de Duque de Caxias a través del análisis de las prácticas museísticas en la centenaria Escuela Regional de Merity, hoy Jardín Infantil Municipal Doctor Álvaro Alberto, desarrolladas a lo largo de su historia. Se consultó el remanente del acervo de la escuela bajo la custodia de CEPEMHEd e investigaciones académicas sobre la historia de la escuela. Se parte de la comprensión de la institución educativa como Lugar de Memoria (NORA, 1993); la concepción ampliada de la educación patrimonial (NAJJAR, 2010); y, desde la noción de experiencia (THOMPSON, 2001). Se concluye que tanto el Museo Regional en su creación como en su forma actual responde a los proyectos escolares emprendidos en cada coyuntura histórica: a principios del siglo XX, vinculado al proyecto regionalista; y en el siglo XXI, referente al derecho a la memoria.Este artigo apresenta o recorte de uma pesquisa sobre os processos educativos na Baixada Fluminense. O enfoque é dado ao trabalho com a memória e valorização do Patrimônio Histórico-Educativo da cidade de Duque de Caxias através da análise das práticas museais na centenária Escola Regional de Merity, hoje Creche-Escola Municipal Doutor Álvaro Alberto, desenvolvidas ao longo de sua história. Foram consultados o acervo remanescente da escola, sob guarda do CEPEMHEd, e pesquisas acadêmicas sobre a história do colégio. Parte-se do entendimento da instituição educativa enquanto “lugar de memória” (NORA, 1993); da concepção ampliada de Educação Patrimonial (NAJJAR, 2010); e da “noção de experiência” (THOMPSON, 2001). Conclui-se que tanto a criação quanto a forma atual do Museu Regional vão ao encontro dos projetos de escola assumidos em cada conjuntura histórica: no início do século XX, ligado ao projeto regionalista, e no século XXI, referente ao direito à memória.
