Resumo: The objective of this study was to investigate the most prominent challenges of cultural democracy and the insertion of peripheral subjects in Brazil, from the social fields. This is a theoretical essay that articulates the discussion on democracy and culture, based on the notion of the social field and the reproduction of different forms of capital, not only economic, but also symbolic and cultural, in contemporary societies. A discussion is presented on what is periphery and its hierarchization in the cultural field, with the debate on the problem of insertion of subjects from the periphery, in culture, and the challenges for overcoming inequality in the Brazilian context.

Es un artículo de carácter teórico que articula la discusión sobre democracia y cultura desde la noción de campo social y la reproducción de diferentes formas de capital, no solo económico, sino también simbólico y cultural en las sociedades contemporáneas. Se debate el problema de la inserción de sujetos originarios de la periferia en el campo de la cultura y los desafíos para superar la desigualdad que también se manifiesta en la reproducción de prácticas sociales e interacciones en el campo de la cultura en el contexto brasileño.O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar os desafios mais proeminentes da democracia cultural e a inserção dos sujeitos periféricos no Brasil a partir dos campos sociais. Trata-se de um estudo teórico que articula a discussão sobre democracia e cultura, a partir da noção de campo social e da reprodução de diferentes formas de capital, não apenas econômico, mas também simbólico e cultural, nas sociedades contemporâneas.
