Resumo: This text aims to analyze two associations founded by secondary school students in Brazil’s state of Sergipe in the final decades of the 19th century: “Sociedade O Porvir” and “Sociedade Tobias Barreto”. Student newspapers along with documents related to secondary education and student associations were used as sources to make this historical investigation. To understand these associations in the 1800's, in the context of secondary education in Sergipe, it was essential to use the concept of school culture as an analysis category, to place the youth culture and youth protagonism as part of the gear of the elite youth formation process.

Para la producción de esta investigación histórica, tomo como fuentes documentales los periódicos estudiantiles y la producción historiográfica acerca de la enseñanza secundaria y asociacionismo estudiantil. Al historiar sobre las asociaciones estudiantiles en los años de 1800 en el contexto de la educación secundaria en Sergipe, se hizo imprescindible utilizar el concepto de “cultura escolar” como una categoría de análisis para situar la cultura y el protagonismo juvenil como parte del engranaje del proceso de formación de la juventud elitista.  A proposta central do presente texto é analisar a Sociedade O Porvir e a Sociedade Grêmio Tobias Barreto, associações criadas pelos alunos do ensino secundário do estado de Sergipe, nas décadas finais do século XIX. Para a produção desta investigação histórica, são usados como fontes documentais os jornais estudantis e a produção historiográfica sobre o ensino secundário e o associativismo estudantil.
