This instrument addresses the issue of abortion as a woman's right to choose and aims to promote a discussion about abortion from the perspective of women as holders of the right to choose. Taking into account that the serious and well-founded confrontation of abortion and the consequences it brings is a significant and fundamental attempt to understand it and link it to issues of human and rights, as well 3 as health. Discarding moralistic and legalistic analysis, the study outlines issues about abortion such as history, typology, legislation and concepts, about the image of women and motherhood, and about the performance of social assistance and the right to life, such as public policies, rights and what the CFESS (Federal Council for Social Services) says on the subject. This study was carried out through a careful exploratory and qualitative bibliographic research, based on books, magazines, newspapers, articles and other materials already published in the last decades. It is pointed out that abortion as a right of choice, has as ethical and political orientation to change the order that already exists, social and patriarchal overcoming, a project that goes beyond the work of social assistance, wanting to build something much bigger, a society fairer.
