Resumo: The holistic vision proposed for thinking about a world with future perspectives in the social, economic and environmental aspects is called sustainability. World documents have been elaborated in the sense of explaining this broad concept, which encompasses these three strands. But it is necessary that these texts are divulged so that the construction of a movement or engagement of the people in the search for a sustainable world takes place. And that depends, a lot, on how these documents are served in the media. Firstly, because the media has great influence on the public and also because it is a communicational environment that seeks to translate complex concepts to the general public. Thus, it became the focus of this research to answer the following question: how does printed media has been addressing the themes related to sustainability on their pages? Thus, this dissertation aimed to analyze the media discourse about sustainability in the printed media of Maringá-PR-Brazil. At first, we sought to define this term and then a selection of texts was undertaken from the search for the word sustainability in the copies of the newspaper O Diário do Norte do Paraná, published between September 2015 and February 2016. One Corpus of 40 selected reports was then the basis for a content analysis, which was categorized as the United Nations Organization (UN) document on the Sustainable Development Objectives (ODS), the Organization's most recent report on design of sustainability. It can be understood that the approach adopted by Maringá printed media in relation to the concept of sustainability proposed by the UN is insufficient and does not construct the meaning of the term suggested by the document. The data that were analyzed show that a greater commitment of communication vehicles is needed in order to disseminate the complex concept of the term sustainability, based on the ODS presented by the UN, to bring about collective transformations and changes, in search of true sustainable development.
