OBJECTIVE: to determine the prevalence of medical prescriptions of methylphenidate 10 mg for an outpatient at neuropaediatric linked to the public health in Maringá-PR. METHODOLOGY: the retrospective cross-sectional observational study of a quantitative character occurred through the collection of data from the medical records registered in the management of public health system network in Maringá, according to data availability, by the neuropediatric outpatient clinic in the Basic Health Unit Zone 7 between January 2017 and November 2019. RESULTS: 339 prescriptions were issued by the neuropediatrician responsible for the specialized outpatient clinic, for 107 patients aged 6 to 11 years. There was an uneven geographic distribution of the number of children attended according to the neighborhood of the city, which shows a socioeconomic influence on the prescription of / search for medicines. It is worth noting the significant increase in revenues in the last 3 months preceding the survey, as well as peaks in the first half of the years involved, pointing to a national trend. CONCLUSION: concluded that adequate specialized monitoring is a premise for better treatment, not dispensing with the longitudinal assistance network. In addition, the impact of socioeconomic conditions is significant, both in the prescription and purchase of the medication, and after the possibility of improvement with the appropriate treatment.
