Animal-assisted therapy as a transforming agent in the health of the older in a Long-Stay Institution in the metropolitan region of Goiânia

Resumo: | Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) is characterized by the use of animals, usually dogs, as adjuncts in the therapeutic process, along with health professionals, as a way of treatment for physical, social and mental improvement. With the increase in longevity and depression, the use of this tool in the comprehensive approach of elderly patients is beneficial. The study aimed to analyze the perception of the elderly about the action of AAT as a transforming health agent. It has a quantitative exploratory character through the application of two questionnaires, one before and the other after the use of Pet therapy, in a Long Stay Institution (ILP) in the metropolitan region of Goiânia - Goiás, where 36 elderly people live, in September and October. de 2022. Inclusion criteria were all elderly people present at the visits and who consented to the research; and the exclusion criteria were the elderly who were not present, those who did not want to participate in Pet therapy, did not consent or when some adversity made it impossible, resulting in the participation of 17 elderly people. The elderly had the same response time and the data were tabulated, analyzed and illustrated by tables and figures. The results show that 94% of the elderly reported a change in mood, happiness, and the mood to perform daily tasks and 88% claimed a decrease in anxiety, improved socialization and relaxation. In addition, the study contributes to knowledge and makes it possible for health professionals and the population to reflect on comprehensive care for the elderly. |

Con el aumento de la longevidad y la depresión, es beneficioso el uso de esta herramienta em el abordaje integral de los pacientes adultos mayores. El estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar la percepción de los ancianos sobre la acción de la AAT como agente transformador de la salud. Tiene carácter exploratorio cuantitativo a través de la aplicación de dos cuestionarios, uno antes y otro después del uso de la Petoterapia, en una Institución de Larga Estancia (ILP) em la región metropolitana de Goiânia – Goiás, donde viven 36 ancianos, em septiembre y octubre de 2022. Los criterios de inclusión fueron todos los ancianos presentes em las visitas y que consintieron em la investigación; y los criterios de exclusión fueron los ancianos que no estaban presentes, los que no querían participar de la Petoterapia, no consentían o cuando alguna adversidad lo imposibilitaba, resultando la participación de 17 ancianos. Los ancianos tuvieron el mismo tiempo de respuesta y los datos fueron tabulados, analizados e ilustrados por tablas y figuras. Los resultados muestran que el 94% de los ancianos reportaron un cambio em el estado de ánimo, la felicidad y el estado de ánimo para realizar las tareas diarias y el 88% afirmó una disminución de la ansiedad, mejora de la socialización y relajación. Además, el estudio contribuye al conocimiento y posibilita que los profesionales de la salud y la población reflexionen sobre la atención integral al anciano.A Terapia Assistida por Animais (TAA) se caracteriza pelo uso de animais, geralmente os cães, como coadjuvantes no processo terapêutico, junto aos profissionais da saúde, como uma via de tratamento para melhora física, social e mental. Com o aumento da longevidade e depressão, apresenta-se benéfica a utilização dessa ferramenta na abordagem integral dos pacientes idosos. O estudo objetivou analisar a percepção dos idosos sobre a ação da TAA como agente transformador de saúde. Possui um caráter exploratório quantitativo via aplicação de dois questionários, sendo um antes e o outro após o uso da Pet terapia, em uma Instituição de Longa Permanência (ILP) da região metropolitana de Goiânia – Goiás, onde residem 36 idosos, em setembro e outubro de 2022. Os critérios de inclusão foram todos os idosos presentes nas visitas e que consentiram à pesquisa; e os critérios de exclusão foram os idosos que não estiveram presentes, os que não quiseram participar da Pet terapia, não consentiram ou quando alguma adversidade os impossibilitou, resultando na participação de 17 idosos. Os idosos tiveram o mesmo tempo de resposta e os dados foram tabulados, analisados e ilustrados por tabelas e figuras. Os resultados mostram que 94% dos idosos referiram mudança de humor, felicidade, ânimo para realizar tarefas do cotidiano e 88% alegaram diminuição de ansiedade, melhora da socialização e relaxamento.
