The Slójd and the moral education of the young

Resumo: This article is an integral part of the historical research that we do in the doctorate in education by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, and aims to highlight the elements presented in the text,  "Slójd and the moral education of the young", written by Aprígio Gonzaga, which was first published in the Journal of Education of Rio de Janeiro and republished in the Pedagogium Magazine (1925). This theme is recurrent in our historical research, for presenting evidence of the Escolanovista proposal, such as the need to re-elaborate education taking as a point of emphasis the implementation of manual work in educational practice, an element that will contribute to the moral formation of young people. In the text under analysis, the author supports the idea that the Slojd is basic to the constitution of the moral formation of learners, ie, that the insertion of manual labor as a formative aspect in human activity must be conceived as one of the pillars of formation moral. In order to reflect on the constitutive elements of the text, we used the work of Rosemary Dore Soares (2000), who, in discussing Gramsci's proposal for education, elaborates a reflection on Slojd, a Swiss model of education that influenced American and Brazilian schools. In Rio Grande do Norte, we find traces of this proposal from the 1908s onwards. Another authored work is by Martha Aparecida Todeschini de Asuncion (2016), which analyzes the educational proposal of the author of the text, which, according to her, exerted a strong influence on the São Paulo teaching project aimed at training the worker. For that, we chose theoretical-methodological references of the new cultural history, that allow to use different sources and documents, associated to the new school, active school and educational practices.

Esta temática es recurrente en nuestra investigación histórica, por presentar indicios de la propuesta escolanovista, tales como la necesidad de reelaborar la educación tomando como punto de destaque la implementación de los trabajos manuales en la práctica educativa, elemento que contribuirá a la formación moral de los jóvenes. En el texto en análisis, el autor sostiene la idea de que el Sadrd es basilar para la constitución de la formación moral de los educandos, es decir, que la inserción de los trabajos manuales como aspecto formador en la actividad humana, debe ser concebida como uno de los pilares de la formación moral. Para reflexionar sobre los elementos constitutivos del texto, recurrimos a la obra de Rosemary Dore Soares (2000), que al discutir la propuesta de Gramsci para la educación, elabora una reflexión sobre Sadrd, modelo suizo de educación que influenció a las escuelas americanas y brasileñas. En Río Grande do Norte encontramos vestigios de esta propuesta a partir de la década de 1908. Otra obra autora visitada es de Martha Aparecida Todeschini de Asunción (2016), que analiza la propuesta educativa del autor del texto, que según ella, ejerció una fuerte influencia para el proyecto de enseñanza paulista dirigido a la formación del trabajador. Para ello, optamos por referenciales teórico-metodológicos de la nueva historia cultural, que permiten utilizar diferentes fuentes y documentos, asociados a la escuela nueva, escuela activa y prácticas educativas.O presente artigo é parte integrante da pesquisa histórica que fazemos no doutorado em educação pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, e objetiva evidenciar os elementos apresentados no texto, “Slójd e a educação moral dos jovens”, de autoria de Aprígio Gonzaga, que teve publicação inicial na Revista A Educação do Rio de Janeiro e republicada na Revista Pedagogium (1925). No Rio Grande do Norte, encontramos vestígios dessa proposta a partir da década de 1908.
