Antioxidant consumption and nutritional status in elderly: an integrating literature review

Resumo: The objective of this study was to investigate the antioxidant consumption and nutritional status of aging. This is a literature review of the integrative type, where a total of ten articles were obtained, in which a detailed analysis of the studies available in full was made in the Scielo, PubMed and EbescoHost databases of the last five years, in Portuguese and English, the following descriptors were used: elderly, food consumption, antioxidants and nutritional status. In the selected studies there was a predominance of insufficient consumption of antioxidant nutrients by the elderly. Regarding nutritional status, it was possible to notice the predominance of overweight in this public. It is possible to consider a relationship between the nutritional status and the food consumption of antioxidants in the elderly, however, it is necessary to carry out further studies in order to elucidate the present theme.

Es una especie de integración de revisión de la literatura, donde nos dieron un total de diez artículos, en los que se llevó a cabo un análisis cuidadoso de los estudios disponibles en su totalidad en las bases de datos PubMed y Scielo, EbescoHost los últimos cinco años y en portugués se utilizaron los descriptores: ancianos, consumo alimentario, antioxidantes y estado nutricional. En los estudios seleccionados hubo un predominio de consumo insuficiente de nutrientes antioxidantes por los ancianos. En relación al estado nutricional fue posible notar el predominio de exceso de peso en ese público. Se puede considerar una relación entre el estado nutricional y el consumo alimentario de antioxidantes en ancianos, sin embargo es necesaria la realización de más estudios a fin de elucidar la presente temática.O presente estudo teve por objetivo, investigar por meio da literatura o consumo de antioxidantes e o estado nutricional no envelhecimento. Trata-se de uma revisão de literatura do tipo integrativa, onde se obteve um total de dez artigos, no qual foi realizada uma análise criteriosa dos estudos disponíveis na íntegra nas bases de dados Scielo, PubMed e EbescoHost dos últimos cinco anos, em português e inglês, foram utilizados os descritores: idosos, consumo alimentar, antioxidantes e estado nutricional. Nos estudos selecionados houve uma predominância de consumo insuficiente de nutrientes antioxidantes pelos idosos. Em relação ao estado nutricional foi possível notar o predomínio de excesso de peso nesse público.
