Nursing consultation with newborns in a capital city of the Legal Amazon: the need for teaching and learning about the theme

Resumo: | The Nursing consultation corroborates health promotion and protection of the population. However, current research shows that this strategy does not always reach its full potential. Thus, this study aimed to identify components that interfere with the practice of Nursing Consultation with the newborn (NB) in Primary Health Care (PHC). To this end, 11 nurses from Family Health Care teams in the municipality of Palmas, Tocantins, Brazil, were interviewed from June to November 2019, and the collected information was submitted to Content Analysis. The results show that the practice of the NB Nursing Consultation is permeated by several challenges, such as difficulties in finding the NB and weaknesses in clinical assessment and in the implementation of the Nursing Process (NP). The components lack of knowledge and technical skills to assess the child, and insipient and unsystematic execution of the steps of data collection and implementation of the NP, negatively, interfere in the practice of Nursing Consultation. |

Sin embargo, la investigación actual muestra que esta estrategia no siempre alcanza todo su potencial. Así, el objetivo fue identificar componentes que interfieren en la práctica de las consultas de enfermería del recién nacido (RN) en la Atención Primaria de Salud (APS). Para ello, 11 enfermeros de equipos de Salud de la Familia de la ciudad de Palmas, Tocantins, Brasil, fueron entrevistados de junio a noviembre de 2019, y las informaciones recolectadas fueron sometidas a Análisis de Contenido. Los resultados demuestran que la práctica de consultas de enfermería para el RN está permeada por varios desafíos, como dificultades en la búsqueda del RN y debilidades en la evaluación clínica y en la implementación del Proceso de Enfermería (PE). Los componentes carecen de conocimientos y habilidades técnicas para evaluar al niño, y la ejecución incipiente y asistemática de las etapas de recolección de datos e implementación del PE, interfieren negativamente en la práctica de la consulta de enfermería.A consulta de enfermagem corrobora promoção e proteção da saúde da população. Entretanto, pesquisas atuais mostram que essa estratégia nem sempre atinge plenamente seu potencial. Assim, objetivou-se identificar componentes que interferem na prática da consulta de enfermagem ao recém-nascido (RN) na Atenção Primária à Saúde (APS). Para tanto, foram entrevistados 11 enfermeiros de equipes de Saúde da Família do município de Palmas, Tocantins, Brasil, no período de junho a novembro de 2019, e as informações coletadas foram submetidas à Análise de Conteúdo. Os resultados demonstram que a prática da consulta de enfermagem ao RN é permeada por diversos desafios, tais como dificuldades para encontrar o RN e fragilidades na avaliação clínica e na implementação do Processo de Enfermagem (PE).
