The useful teaching for misguided children: Pindobal’s case, in 20th century in Paraíba

Resumo: This article purposes to analyze the arising of President João Pessoa Agricultural Center (Pindobal) under the light of Nova doctrine’s percepts, in the mid of 1930’s, at the Paraíba state. The methodological ways we walked have documental character and qualitative base, using the prints as the primary research source, starting by the Paradigm and the Speech Analysis to explore the creation of Pindobal. In a pragmatic way, the results are based on the affirmation that Pindobal is an institution thought from two perspectives: the one of professional agricultural education and the one of correction for possible deviations in conduct, culminating in incarceration to civilize. That institution was created to support young people in situation of social vulnerability and, according to the prints, assumes the purpose of socialize the useful teaching to misguided children. We also point that the institution assumes Escolanovismo’s elements, the one that the director Sizenando Costa makes harsh criticisms to bookish teachings models and defends a teahing for work and life.

Los caminos metodológicos que seguimos son de base documental y cualitativa, utilizando el material impreso como la principal fuente de investigación, comenzando por el Paradigma del Índice y el Análisis del Discurso para revelar la creación de Pindobal. De manera pragmática, los resultados se basan en la afirmación de que Pindobal es una institución pensada desde dos perspectivas: una de la educación agrícola profesional y outra de la corrección por posibles desviaciones en la conducta, que culminan en el encarcelamiento para civilizar. Dicha institución se crea para apoyar a los jóvenes en una situación de vulnerabilidad social y, según el material impreso, asume el objetivo de socializar una educación útil para los desvalidos. También enfatizamos que esta institución toma elementos del escolonismo, en la medida en que el director Sizenando Costa hace duras críticas a los modelos de enseñanza de libros y defiende la enseñanza para el trabajo y para la vida.O presente artigo tem o objetivo de analisar o surgimento do Centro Agrícola Presidente João Pessoa (Pindobal) à luz dos preceitos da Escola Nova, em meados dos anos de 1930, no estado da Paraíba. Os caminhos metodológicos que percorremos são de caráter documental e de base qualitativa, utilizando o impresso como principal fonte de pesquisa, partindo do Paradigma Indiciário e da Análise do Discurso para desvelar a criação de Pindobal. De maneira pragmática, os resultados estão balizados na afirmação de que Pindobal é uma instituição pensada sob duas óticas: a do ensino profissional agrícola e a da correção para possíveis desvios de condutas, culminando no encarcerar para civilizar. Tal instituição é criada para amparar jovens em situação de vulnerabilidade social e, segundo os impressos, assume o objetivo de socializar o ensino útil para os menores transviados.
