Stress of Elementary School teachers: environment in evidence

Resumo: The selected objective was to describe the research environment of the elementary school teachers. We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional survey, with a quantitative approach. Results obtained from a sample of 421 surveyed teachers show that they are, 95.2% are women, in average, 41 years old, 43.9% hold a teaching licensure, with 15 years of teaching practice, 49% working just one educational institution and a daily average of 53 students. We verified that the teachers presented an intermediate stress level. The results also indicate that organizational and infrastructural factors are also correlated with stress levels. Overall, the results suggest that an inappropriate work environment is likely to generate an increased amount of stress in elementary school first grade teachers. Furthermore, this study brought an important debate on the work environment, highlighting the importance of being mindful to the teachers’ conditions in a work-related context. We suggest the development of new surveys on work environment and stress in elementary school teachers, with the implementation of environmental assessment tools, in order to comprehensively analyze the work environment.

Realizamos una encuesta descriptiva de corte transversal, con un enfoque cuantitativo. Los resultados obtenidos de una muestra de 421 maestros encuestados muestran que son, 95.2% son mujeres, en promedio, 41 años, 43.9% tienen una licencia de enseñanza, con 15 años de práctica docente, 49% trabajan solo en una institución educativa y diariamente promedio de 53 estudiantes. Verificamos que los maestros presentaban un nivel de estrés intermedio. Los resultados también indican que los factores organizacionales y de infraestructura también están correlacionados con los niveles de estrés. En general, los resultados sugieren que un ambiente de trabajo inapropiado probablemente genere una mayor cantidad de estrés en los maestros de primer grado de primaria. Además, este estudio trajo un debate importante sobre el ambiente de trabajo, destacando la importancia de tener en cuenta las condiciones de los maestros en un contexto relacionado con el trabajo. Sugerimos el desarrollo de nuevas encuestas sobre el ambiente de trabajo y el estrés en los maestros de primaria, con la implementación de herramientas de evaluación ambiental, con el fin de analizar exhaustivamente el ambiente de trabajo.Elencou-se como objetivo analisar o ambiente de trabalho e o estresse ocupacional de professores do ensino fundamental I. Trata-se do método de pesquisa descritivo, de corte transversal, do tipo survey com abordagem quantitativa. Dos 421 professores que compuseram a amostra, 95,2% são do sexo feminino, a média de idade 41 anos, 43,9% fizeram licenciatura, o tempo médio de docência foi 15 anos, 49% trabalham em apenas uma instituição de ensino e são responsáveis diariamente por 53 alunos em média. Verificou-se que os professores apresentaram nível de estresse médio. Evidenciou-se ainda os componentes físicos ambientais e organizacionais do trabalho apresentam correlação estatística significativa. Assim, ao final do estudo observa-se as condições laborais dos professores dos anos iniciais do ensino fundamental mostraram-se inapropriadas, em relação aos aspectos físicos do ambiente para a maioria dos professores e podem gerar estresse no professor do ensino fundamental I. Além disso, o estudo trouxe uma reflexão importante sobre o ambiente de trabalho e a influência do ambiente na saúde dos indivíduos e na perspectiva da saúde do trabalhador. Reforça-se a importância de cuidar dos professores nos contextos laborais.
