The repercussions of Brazilian Literacy Movement (MOBRAL) on the lives of students: comings and goings of their school trajectories

Resumo: | This study is aimed at former students of the Brazilian Literacy Movement - MOBRAL and aims to analyze their performance in São João do Jaguaribe city, between 1972 and 1979, observing the repercussions of the referred Program in the lives of students. It is a qualitative research, of an explanatory type, from the perspective of the dialectical method, in which teachers, students and managers of MOBRAL were interviewed. It was found that, through memories, participants enrich their narratives, incorporating assessments of what the experience represented in their lives. It reflected on the performance of activities in the municipality, identifying that the actions of functional literacy, in the rural scope, had a lower than expected performance, marked dropout, discouragement and physical tiredness of the students. In the integrated education class, in the urban area, some students managed to have a good performance, completing their studies and receiving qualification for teaching. It was found that the majority of students sought literacy for the purpose of suffrage and some report having been victims of prejudice, reinforcing stigma and social denial to the subject in an illiteracy situation. Finally, this study allows us to reflect on the challenges of youth and adult education and provides clues for future studies that will deepen this discussion. |

Se trata de una investigación cualitativa, de tipo explicativo, desde la perspectiva del método dialéctico, en el que se entrevistó a docentes, estudiantes y directivos de MOBRAL. Se descubrió que, a través de los recuerdos, los participantes enriquecen sus narrativas, incorporando evaluaciones de lo que la experiencia representó en sus vidas. Reflexionó sobre el desempeño de las actividades en el municipio, identificando que las acciones de alfabetización funcional, en el ámbito rural, tuvieron un desempeño más bajo de lo esperado, deserción marcada, desánimo y cansancio físico de los estudiantes. En la clase de educación integrada, en el área urbana, algunos estudiantes lograron tener un buen desempeño, completando sus estudios y recibiendo calificaciones para la enseñanza. Se descubrió que la mayoría de los estudiantes buscaban la alfabetización con fines de sufragio y algunos informaron haber sido víctimas de prejuicios, reforzando el estigma y la negación social del sujeto en una situación de analfabetismo. Finalmente, este estudio nos permite reflexionar sobre los desafíos de la educación de jóvenes y adultos y proporciona pistas para futuros estudios que profundizarán esta discusión.Este estudo volta-se aos ex-alunos do Movimento Brasileiro de Alfabetização – MOBRAL e tem como objetivo analisar sua atuação em São João do Jaguaribe, no período compreendido entre 1972 e 1979, observando as repercussões do referido Programa nas vidas dos educandos. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, do tipo explicativo, sob a ótica do método dialético, na qual foram entrevistadas professoras, educandos e gestores do MOBRAL. Constatou-se que, através das memórias, os participantes enriquecem suas narrativas, incorporando avaliações do que representou a experiência em suas vidas. Refletiu-se sobre o rendimento das atividades no município, identificando que as ações de alfabetização funcional, no âmbito rural, tiveram rendimento abaixo do esperado, evasão acentuada, desestímulo e cansaço físico dos alunos. Já na turma de educação integrada, na zona urbana, alguns alunos conseguiram ter bom rendimento, concluindo os estudos e recebendo habilitação para o magistério. Constatou-se que a maioria dos educandos buscava a alfabetização para fins de sufrágio e alguns relatam terem sido vítimas de preconceito, reforçando o estigma e a negação social ao sujeito em situação de analfabetismo.
