Parents’ opinion about the use of music in the neonatal environment

Resumo: Objective: Reveal the opinion of parents in relation to the use of music in the neonatal environment. Method: This is all descriptive, cross-sectional with a qualitative approach, carried out with parents of newborns hospitalized in the Neonatal unit of a teaching hospital, located in the Northern Region of the State of Paraná. Data were collected in June and July 2019 and analyzed through Thematic Content Analysis.  Results: Participated in the study eight parents. After analysis and interpretation of the collected data, two thematic units emerged: Experiencing music in the neonatal environment, which results in or in the following categories; First contact with music; Benefits and harms of music, The Second thematic unit: Absence of music in the neonatal environment that resulted in the category: Stress and anxiety in the face of the neonatal environment without music. Final considerations: Music helps reduce anxiety, stress and relaxation, and provides a more pleasant environment.

Método: Estudio descriptivo, transversal con enfoque cualitativo, realizado con padres de recién nacidos internados en las Unidades Neonatales de un hospital docente ubicado en la Región Norte del Estado de Paraná. Los datos fueron recolectados en junio y julio de 2019 y analizados a través del Análisis de Contenido Temático. Resultados: Ocho padres participaron en el estudio. Después del análisis e interpretación de los datos recolectados, surgieron dos unidades temáticas: Experimentar la música en el ambiente neonatal, lo que resultó en las siguientes categorías; Primer contacto con la música; Beneficios y daños de la música, La Segunda unidad temática: Ausencia de música en el ambiente neonatal que dio lugar a la categoría: Estrés y ansiedad frente al ambiente neonatal sin música. Consideraciones finales: La música ayuda a reducir la ansiedad, el estrés y la relajación, y proporciona un ambiente más agradable.Objetivo: Desvelar a percepção dos pais em relação ao uso da música no ambiente neonatal. Método: Estudo descritivo, transversal, com abordagem qualitativa, realizado com pais de recém-nascidos hospitalizados nas Unidades Neonatais de um hospital escola, localizado na região norte do estado do Paraná. Os dados foram coletados nos meses de junho e julho de 2019 e analisados por meio da Análise de Conteúdo Temática. Resultados: Participaram do estudo oito pais. Após análise e interpretação dos dados coletados, emergiram duas unidades temáticas, sendo: Vivenciando a música no ambiente neonatal, a qual resultou nas seguintes categorias; Primeiro contato com a música; Benefícios e malefícios da música, a segunda unidade temática: Ausência da música no ambiente neonatal que resultou na categoria: Estresse e ansiedade frente ao ambiente neonatal sem música.
