Prevalence of oral changes in patients with special needs

Resumo: The aim of this study is to identify the prevalence of oral changes in patients seen at the Special Needs Patients’ Clinic of the Dentistry School, UEPB, in the city of Araruna, PB. A retrospective, observational and quantitative study was carried out with the analysis of 59 medical records of patients with special needs seen between the semesters of 2015.2 and 2017.1, since the implementation of this service. Data on the sex, age, CPO-D index, dental treatments and duration of treatment were recorded. Data collection was taken through a secondary form using google forms to store the necessary information and then proceed the study. Data were organized and exported to Microsoft Excel 2016 and then SPSS program was used to analyze statistically and categorize them. It was observed that males were more prevalent (50.2%) in relation to females (48.2%). Age group was composed mostly (76.3%) by people under 40 years. The oral changes were cavities, in 69.7% of patients, periodontal disease in 57.6% and other lesions, such as actinic cheilitis, in 7.6%. The CPO-D index average was 12.10; the dental procedures more performed were restorations (84.75%), supra / subgengival scraping (57.62%), extractions (20.03%), topical application of fluoride (44.06%) and prosthetic rehabilitation (1.69%). Out of 59 patients 74.57% presented periodontal disease and cavities as the main oral changes. The highest incidence of cavities was in females (82.8%) and periodontal disease in males (70.0%).

Estudio retrospectivo, observacional y cuantitativo, con el análisis de 59 cuadros de pacientes con necesidades especiales tratados desde 2015.2 a 2017.1, desde la implementación de esta clínica. Se registraron datos sobre género, edad, índice DMFT, tratamientos dentales realizados y duración de la estancia en el tratamiento. La recopilación de datos se obtuvo a través de un formulario secundario utilizando formularios de Google, con el fin de recopilar la información necesaria para el estudio. Luego, los datos se organizaron y almacenaron en hojas de cálculo Excel y para su análisis estadístico y categorización se utilizó el programa SPSS. Hubo una mayor prevalencia de varones (50,2%) en comparación con las mujeres (48,2%). El grupo de edad era principalmente (76,3%) por personas menores de 40 años. Las alteraciones orales encontradas fueron caries en el 69,7% de los pacientes, enfermedad periodontal en el 57,6% y otras lesiones, como la queilitis actínica, en el 7,6%. El índice medio de DMFT fue de 12.10; y los tratamientos dentales más realizados se caracterizaron por procedimientos restaurativos (84.75%), raspado supra / subgingival (57.62%), extracciones (20.03%), aplicación de fluoruro tópico (44.06%) y rehabilitación. prótesis (1,69%). De los 59 pacientes, el 74.57% presentaron enfermedad periodontal y caries como las principales alteraciones orales encontradas. La mayor incidencia de caries fue en mujeres (82.8%) y enfermedad periodontal en hombres (70.0%).Identificar a prevalência de alterações bucais em pacientes atendidos na Clínica de Pacientes com Necessidades Especiais do curso de Odontologia, da Universidade Estadual da Paraíba, na cidade de Araruna/PB. Estudo retrospectivo, observacional e quantitativo, com a análise de 59 prontuários de Pacientes com Necessidades Especiais atendidos no período de 2015.2 a 2017.1, desde a implementação desta clínica. Foram registrados os dados relativos ao sexo, idade, índice de CPO-D, tratamentos odontológicos realizados e o tempo de permanência em tratamento na disciplina. A coleta dos dados foi obtida por meio de uma ficha secundária com uso do google forms, a fim de reunir informações necessárias para a realização do estudo. Em seguida os dados foram organizados e armazenados em planilhas do Excel e para sua análise estatística e categorização utilizou-se o programa SPSS. Observou-se maior prevalência de indivíduos do sexo masculino (50,2%) em relação ao feminino (48,2%). A faixa etária era composta em sua maioria (76,3%) por pessoas com idade abaixo de 40 anos. As alterações bucais encontradas foram cárie, em 69,7% dos pacientes, doença periodontal em 57,6% e ainda outras lesões, como por exemplo queilite actínica, em 7,6%. O índice de CPO-D médio foi de 12,10; e os tratamentos odontológicos mais executados caracterizaram-se por procedimentos restauradores (84,75%), raspagem supra/subgengival (57,62%), exodontias (20,03%), aplicação tópica de flúor (44,06%) e reabilitação protética (1,69%).
