Critical mathematics education and mathematical modeling: an activity proposal for the classroom

Resumo: | Mathematical modeling is a teaching-learning trend that can be used by mathematics teachers who seek to break with traditional teaching. This type of approach, when used, does not consist only of analyzing everyday problems, transcribing them into mathematical language and solving them. It is a process in which, from the models, strategies for action by students can be defined on their reality. For this, it is important that the data used for the elaboration of the models come from the daily life of the students, so that, from the constructed model, important information is removed that allows the decision-making to interfere in reality. The objective of this article is to present a proposal for a mathematical modeling activity, based on critical mathematics education, which can contribute not only to the teaching of linear function, but also to the development of students' critical and reflective thinking about waste and the importance of the rational use of water in our homes. This is a bibliographical research that presents and discusses the relationship between critical mathematics education and mathematical modeling, within a proposal that is still theoretical, but which can later unfold in more practical and experimental research. |

Este tipo de enfoque, cuando se utiliza, no consiste únicamente en analizar problemas cotidianos, transcribirlos al lenguaje matemático y resolverlos. Es un proceso en el que, a partir de los modelos, se pueden definir estrategias de actuación de los alumnos sobre su realidad. Para ello, es importante que los datos que se utilicen para la elaboración de los modelos provengan del día a día de los estudiantes, de modo que del modelo construido se extraiga información importante que permita la toma de decisiones para interferir en la realidad. El objetivo de este artículo es presentar una propuesta de actividad de modelación matemática, basada en la educación matemática crítica, que puede contribuir no solo a la enseñanza de la función lineal, sino también al desarrollo del pensamiento crítico y reflexivo de los estudiantes sobre los residuos y la importancia del uso racional del agua en nuestros hogares. Se trata de una investigación bibliográfica, que presenta y discute la relación entre la educación matemática crítica y la modelación matemática, dentro de una propuesta que aún es teórica, pero que luego puede desplegarse en investigaciones más prácticas y experimentales.A modelagem matemática é uma tendência de ensino-aprendizagem que pode ser utilizada por professores de matemática que buscam a ruptura com o ensino tradicional. Esse tipo de abordagem quando utilizado, não consiste apenas em analisar problemas do cotidiano, transcrevê-los em linguagem matemática e resolvê-los. É um processo no qual a partir dos modelos podem ser definidas estratégias de ação dos alunos sobre sua realidade. Para isso, é importante que os dados utilizados para elaboração dos modelos venham do cotidiano dos alunos, para que, a partir do modelo construído, sejam retiradas informações importantes que permitam a tomada de decisões para interferência na realidade. O objetivo desse artigo é apresentar uma proposta de atividade de modelagem matemática, fundamentado na educação matemática crítica, que possa contribuir não apenas para o ensino de função linear, como também para o desenvolvimento do pensamento crítico e reflexivo dos estudantes acerca do desperdício e da importância do uso racional da água em nossas residências.
