Biological activity and chemical profile reported for Bauhinia forficata species

Resumo: Objective: To describe the pharmacological properties of the species Bauhinia forficata Link in relation to its chemical constitution. Methodology: This is an integrative literature review study, which analyzes a problem by analyzing the results found in articles. The following databases were used: LILACS, IBECS, NIH-PUBMED and SCIELO, using the following descriptors (with respective translations into English) - “Bauhinia forficata” and “Plantas medicinais”. Full articles were included, available in Portuguese, English or Spanish and published between January 2016 to December 2021. Results: Nine articles made up the final sample of this study, with the highest frequency of publication in 2020 (n: 03). It was found that Bahuinia forficata Link was involved in studies that proved its antibacterial, hypoglycemic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and healing action. The hypoglycemic purpose is from more recent reviews where they showed the potential of flavonoid derivatives as innovative targets in the current management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Conclusion: The development of this work enabled an investigation about the various benefits that the use of Bahuinia forficata Link presents to health, where knowledge about the chemical profile of this species can be extremely beneficial.

Metodología: Se trata de un estudio de revisión bibliográfica integradora, que analiza un problema mediante el análisis de los resultados encontrados en los artículos. Se utilizaron las siguientes bases de datos: LILACS, IBECS, NIH-PUBMED y SCIELO, utilizando los siguientes descriptores (con sus respectivas traducciones al inglés) - “Bauhinia forficata” y “Plantas medicinais”. Se incluyeron artículos completos, disponibles en portugués, inglés o español y publicados entre enero de 2016 y diciembre de 2021. Resultados: Nueve artículos compusieron la muestra final de este estudio, con la mayor frecuencia de publicación en 2020 (n: 03). Se comprobó que Bahuinia forficata Link participó en estudios que demostraron su acción antibacteriana, hipoglucemiante, antioxidante, antiinflamatoria, antifúngica y cicatrizante. El propósito hipoglucémico es de revisiones más recientes en las que mostraron el potencial de los derivados de los flavonoides como objetivos innovadores en la gestión actual de la diabetes mellitus tipo 2. Conclusión: El desarrollo de este trabajo permitió una investigación sobre los diversos beneficios que el uso de Bahuinia forficata Link presenta para la salud, donde el conocimiento del perfil químico de esta especie puede ser extremadamente beneficioso.Objetivo: Descrever as propriedades farmacológicas para espécie Bauhinia forficata Link relacionando com sua constituição química. Metodologia: Trata-se de um estudo de revisão integrativa da literatura, que analisa uma problemática por meio da análise de resultados encontrados em artigos. Foi utilizada as seguintes bases de dados: LILACS, IBECS, NIH-PUBMED e SCIELO, por meio dos seguintes descritores (com respectivas traduções para o inglês) - “Bauhinia forficata” e “Plantas medicinais”. Foram incluídos artigos completos, disponíveis em português, inglês ou espanhol e publicados entre janeiro de 2016 a dezembro de 2021. Resultados: Nove artigos compuseram a amostra final desse estudo, com maior frequência de publicação em 2020 (n: 03). Verificou-se que a Bahuinia forficata Link esteve envolvida em estudos que comprovaram sua ação antibacteriana, hipoglicemiante, antioxidante, anti-inflamatória, antifúngica e cicatrizante. A finalidade hipoglicemiante é de revisões mais recentes onde mostraram as potencialidades dos derivados de flavonoides como alvos inovadores no atual manejo do diabetes mellitus tipo 2.
