Resumo: In order to evaluate and characterize urban drainage systems, several studies and methodologies have been developing to find a better way to make efficient and solve the problems generated, whether environmental, legal or economic, in urban drainage systems. The objective of this work was to review the evaluation and characterization or diagnosis methodologies applied to urban drainage systems. The bibliographic research was used as a methodological basis on the subject for the development of its work. As a result, it was possible to verify that there are still issues in methods of characterization of drainage systems. The most usual ones are being used, however, regarding the evaluation of drainage systems, one can find several methods that allow the best performance of these systems. In conclusion, there is no specific method for both evaluation and characterization of the drainage system since it depends on the proposed objectives in each methodology and it is also possible to use more than one methodology within the same objective.

In conclusion, there is no specific method for both evaluation and characterization of the drainage system since it depends on the proposed objectives in each methodology and it is also possible to use more than one methodology within the same objective.Con el fin de evaluar y caracterizar los sistemas de drenaje urbano, se desarrollan varios estudios y metodologías para encontrar una mejor manera de hacer eficiente y resolver los problemas generados, ya sean ambientales, legales o económicos, en los sistemas de drenaje urbano. El objetivo del trabajo fue revisar las metodologías de evaluación y caracterización o diagnóstico aplicadas a los sistemas de drenaje urbano. La investigación bibliográfica se utilizó como base metodológica sobre el tema para el desarrollo del trabajo. Como resultado, fue posible verificar que todavía se encuentran dificultades en los métodos de caracterización de los sistemas de drenaje, los más habituales se utilizan, sin embargo, con respecto a la evaluación de los sistemas de drenaje, se pueden encontrar varios métodos que permiten el mejor rendimiento de estos sistemas. Se concluye que no existe un método específico tanto para la evaluación como para la caracterización del sistema de drenaje, puesto que depende de los objetivos empleados en cada metodología, siendo posible utilizar más de una metodología dentro del mismo objetivo.Com o intuito de avaliar e caracterizar sistemas de drenagem urbana, diversos estudos e metodologias são desenvolvidos a fim de encontrar uma melhor forma de tornar eficiente e solucionar os problemas gerados, sejam eles ambientais, legais ou econômicos, nos sistemas de drenagem urbana. O objetivo do trabalho foi fazer uma revisão de metodologias de avaliação e caracterização ou diagnóstico aplicados a sistemas de drenagem urbana. Utilizou-se de pesquisa bibliográfica como base metodológica sobre o assunto para o desenvolvimento do trabalho. Como resultado foi possível verificar que ainda se encontra barreiras em métodos de caracterização de sistemas de drenagem, sendo utilizadas as mais usuais, porém, sobre a avaliação de sistemas de drenagem podem-se encontrar diversos métodos que permitem o melhor desempenho desses sistemas.
