Larvicidal effect of the essential oil from the leaves of Ruta graveolens LINNEAU in control of Aedes aegypti (LINNAEU, 1762) (Diptera: Culicidae)

Resumo: In the search for an alternative chemical control against Aedes aegypti, many researches are developed and encouraged in order to find new bioinsecticide substances of plant origin. Thus, the objective of this work was to evaluate the larvicidal effect of the essential oil of rue (Ruta graveolens Linneau) on third instar Aedes aegypti larvae. The identification of chemical components present in the essential oil of R. graveolens Linneau was performed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). Larvicidal activity was determined using the Reed-Muench and Pizzi methods in Aedes aegypti larvae. The results showed that the essential oil of rue had the highest larvicidal activity, at a concentration of 61,641 ± 1,72 μg mL-1. The mortality efficiency of Aedes aegypti may be related to the presence of 2-nonanone and 2-undecanone (methylketones) in the rue essential oil, important components of recognized efficacy as an insecticide. Thus, it can be seen that the essential oil under study has chemical compounds with a larvicidal effect against A. aegypti.

Así, el objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar el efecto larvicida del aceite esencial de ruda (Ruta graveolens Linneau) en larvas de Aedes aegypti de tercer estadio. La identificación de los componentes químicos presentes en el aceite esencial de R. graveolens Linneau se realizó mediante cromatografía de gases - espectrometría de masas (GC/MS). La actividad larvicida se determinó mediante los métodos Reed-Muench y Pizzi en larvas de Aedes aegypti. Los resultados mostraron que el aceite esencial de ruda tuvo la mayor actividad larvicida, a una concentración de 61,641 ± 1,72 μg mL-1. La eficiencia de mortalidad de Aedes aegypti puede estar relacionada con la presencia de 2-nonanona y 2-undecanona (metilcetonas) en el aceite esencial de ruda, componentes importantes de reconocida eficacia como insecticida. Así, se puede observar que el aceite esencial en estudio tiene compuestos químicos con efecto larvicida contra A. aegypti.Na busca pelo controle químico alternativo contra o Aedes aegypti, muitas pesquisas são desenvolvidas e incentivadas de modo a encontrar novas substâncias bioinseticidas de origem vegetal. Com isso, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito larvicida do óleo essencial da arruda (Ruta graveolens Linneau) sobre as larvas do terceiro estádio do Aedes aegypti. A identificação dos componentes químicos presentes no óleo essencial de R. graveolens Linneau foi realizada por cromatografia gasosa-espectrometria de massa (CG/MS). A atividade larvicida foi determinada empregando os métodos de Reed-Muench e Pizzi em larvas do Aedes aegypti. Os resultados demonstraram que o óleo essencial de arruda apresentou a maior atividade larvicida, na concentração de 61,641 ± 1,72 μg mL-1. A eficiência da mortalidade do Aedes aegypti pode estar relacionada à presença de 2-nonanona e 2-undecanona (metilcetonas) no óleo essencial de arruda, componentes importantes de reconhecida eficácia como inseticida.
