Resumo: | Many children at school have problems with their developing teeth, due to the lack of access to information and dental services, thus making adequate and preventive care difficult. In view of this, the study was developed with the objective of discussing the importance of the promotion and prevention of oral health in elementary school in Pinheiro, MA. Therefore, a descriptive bibliographic research was carried out, based on the search for publications from 2017 to 2021 in the Scielo and Google Scholar databases, using the descriptors “health education”, “oral health” and “oral health education”. In order to relate the discourses and theoretical findings, a field research was carried out using a questionnaire via Google Forms, with managers and/or coordinators of public schools in the municipality of Pinheiro, MA. For discursive questions, Bardin's discourse analysis technique was used. As a result, it was found that school managers have been working in the schools in the sample for, on average, two and a half years; health education actions take place annually and are part of the Health Department's initiatives; there is no training for the school team, specifically on oral health, nor interdisciplinary projects on this topic. Nonetheless, when oral health actions take place the school community actively participates. Therefore, the importance of developing an interdisciplinary project and training and/or improvement of the school team was considered as strategies to promote oral health education in these schools. |

Teniendo en cuenta esto, el estudio se desarrolló con el objetivo de discutir la importancia de la promoción y prevención de la salud oral en las escuelas primarias de Pinheiro, MA. Inicialmente, se realizó una investigación bibliográfica, descriptiva, considerando las publicaciones de 2017 a 2021 en las bases Scielo y Google Acadêmico, utilizando los descriptores "health education", "oral health" y "oral health education". Posteriormente, se realizó una investigación de campo, mediante el envío de un cuestionario, a través de Google Forms, a los directores y coordinadores de las escuelas públicas de Pinheiro, MA. Para las preguntas discursivas se utilizó la técnica de análisis del discurso de Bardin. Como resultados, se obtuvo que los gestores escolares trabajan en las escuelas de la muestra desde hace un promedio de dos años y medio; las acciones de educación para la salud se realizan anualmente y provienen de iniciativas de la Secretaría de Salud; no hay capacitación para el equipo escolar, específicamente, sobre salud bucal, ni proyectos interdisciplinarios sobre este tema. Sin embargo, cuando las acciones de salud bucodental tienen lugar en la escuela, la comunidad escolar participa activamente. Por ello, consideramos la importancia de desarrollar un proyecto interdisciplinar y la formación y/o mejora del equipo escolar como estrategias para promover la educación en salud bucodental en estas escuelas.Muitas crianças em fase escolar têm problemas na dentição em desenvolvimento, devido à ausência de acesso à informação e aos serviços odontológicos. Diante disso, desenvolveu-se o estudo com o objetivo de discutir a importância da promoção e prevenção da saúde bucal no ensino fundamental de Pinheiro, MA. Inicialmente, realizou-se uma pesquisa bibliográfica, descritiva, considerando publicações de 2017 a 2021 nas bases Scielo e Google Acadêmico, utilizando-se os descritores “educação em saúde”, “saúde bucal” e “educação em saúde bucal”. Posteriormente, realizou-se uma pesquisa de campo, com envio de questionário, via Google Forms, a gestores e coordenadores de escolas públicas de Pinheiro, MA. Para as questões discursivas, utilizou-se a técnica de análise de discurso de Bardin. Como resultados, obteve-se que os gestores escolares estão trabalhando nas escolas da amostra há, em média, dois anos e meio; as ações de educação em saúde acontecem anualmente e partem de iniciativas da Secretaria de Saúde; não há capacitação para a equipe escolar, especificamente, sobre saúde bucal, tampouco projetos interdisciplinares sobre essa temática. No entanto, quando acontecem ações de saúde bucal na escola, a comunidade escolar participa ativamente.
