Characterization of the epidemiological profile and morbimortality caused by Congenital Syphilis in the municipality of Blumenau – Santa Catarina from 2015 to 2021

Resumo: Objective: To analyze the epidemiological profile of the cases of Congenital Syphilis reported in Blumenau - Santa Catarina, as well as investigate the sociodemographic and clinical aspects between the years 2015 and 2021. Methodology: This is a descriptive, analytical, cross-sectional and retrospective study, with a quantitative approach. Data were obtained through the Information System of Notifiable Diseases, Mortality Information System, by the Epidemiological Surveillance Directorate and the Basic Data Indicators of Syphilis in Brazilian municipalities. Results: 515 cases of Congenital Syphilis and Gestational Syphilis were notified in the period studied, presenting a successive sequence, with a reduction of the subsequent cases in 2022 and growth of 335% in the following year (average incidence of 3.6 cases/1,000 live births). According to the data analyzed 57.6% of pregnant women were aged between 20 and 29 years, with low educational level and white, 91% of pregnant women had prenatal care, 71.1% were diagnosed with syphilis during prenatal care, of which 98.2% had inadequate treatment or no treatment. It was observed that 98.2% of infected neonates were less than seven days old and were diagnosed with recent Congenital Syphilis. Conclusion: The growing incidence of CS reported in Brazil and in Blumenau, in the period studied determines the need for training of health professionals in the realization of prenatal care for adequate assistance and effective monitoring during the gestational period.

Los datos se obtuvieron a través del Sistema de Información de Agravios de Notificación, el Sistema de Información sobre Mortalidad, la Dirección de Vigilancia Epidemiológica y los Indicadores de Datos Básicos de la Sífilis en los municipios brasileños. Resultados: Se notificaron 515 casos de Sífilis Congénita y Sífilis Gestacional en el período estudiado, presentando una secuencia sucesiva, con reducción de los casos posteriores en el en 2022 y crecimiento del 335% en el año posterior (incidencia media de 3,6 casos/1.000 nacidos vivos). Según los datos analizados el 57,6% de las embarazadas tenían entre 20 y 29 años, con bajo nivel educativo y de raza blanca, el 91% de las embarazadas tuvieron control prenatal, el 71,1% fueron diagnosticadas de sífilis durante el control prenatal, de las cuales el 98,2% tuvieron un tratamiento inadecuado o no realizaron el tratamiento. Se observó que el 98,2% de los neonatos infectados tenían menos de siete días de vida y fueron diagnosticados con Sífilis Congénita reciente. Conclusión: La creciente incidencia del SC notificado en Brasil y en Blumenau, en el período estudiado, determina la necesidad de capacitación de los profesionales de la salud en la realización del prenatal para una asistencia adecuada y un acompañamiento eficaz durante el período gestacional.Objetivo: Analisar o perfil epidemiológico dos casos de Sífilis Congênita notificados em Blumenau – Santa Catarina, assim como investigar os aspectos sociodemográficos e clínicos entre os anos de 2015 e 2021. Metodologia: Trata-se de um estudo de caráter descritivo, analítico, transversal e retrospectivo, com abordagem quantitativa. Os dados foram obtidos através do Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação, Sistema de Informações sobre Mortalidade, pela Diretoria de Vigilância Epidemiológica e pelos Indicadores de Dados Básicos da Sífilis nos municípios brasileiros. Resultados: Foram notificados 515 casos de Sífilis Congênita e Sífilis Gestacional no período estudado, apresentando uma sequência sucessivamente, com redução dos casos subsequentes nos em 2022 e crescimento de 335% no ano posterior (incidência média de 3,6 casos/1.000 nascidos vivos). Conforme os dados analisados 57,6% das gestantes estavam na faixa etária entre 20 e 29 anos, com baixo nível de escolaridade e de cor branca, 91% das gestantes realizaram o pré-natal, 71,1% diagnosticadas com sífilis durante a realização do pré-natal, da qual 98,2% realizaram tratamento inadequado ou não realizou o tratamento. Observou-se que 98,2% dos neonatos infectados tinham menos de sete dias de vida e foram diagnosticados com Sífilis Congênita recente.
