Changes in practices of organic certified cocoa farmers in Southwest Paraense, Eastern Amazonia

Resumo: The production of certified organic cocoa requires significant changes in the productive and commercial practices of family farmers. This work aims to study the changes in the practices of certified organic cocoa production families in the municipalities of Pacajá, Brasil Novo and Medicilândia. Forty-seven farmers from three cooperatives of organic products were interviewed. It was identified what has influenced the changes of the productive practices of family farmers in relation to the production of cocoa beans in the region, highlighting four logics that drove such changes: a) emphasis on product quality, b) quality linked to the guarantee (c) irregularity in practices for the production of good quality almonds, and d) little influence by market encouragement. The differences between the logics are associated to the type of production of the almond, with quality (Acoaq) and conventional (ACC) and the way each farmer has adopted the changes in their systems. The changes of the systems resulting from the adopted practices and the commercialization follows more the perspective of the organic agriculture, and it was verified that some systems are few influenced by the external logics after the entry in the cooperatives. The main reasons are the lack of manpower and working capital in the cooperatives for immediate payment.

Se entrevistaron cuarenta y siete agricultores de tres cooperativas de productos orgánicos. Se identificó lo que ha influido en los cambios de las prácticas productivas de agricultores familiares en relación a la producción de almendra de cacao en la región, destacándose cuatro lógicas que impulsaron tales cambios: a) énfasis en la calidad del producto, b) calidad vinculada a la garantía c) irregularidad en las prácticas de producción de almendras de buena calidad, e d) poco influenciada por los estímulos del mercado. Las diferencias entre las lógicas están asociadas al tipo de producción de la almendra, con calidad (Acoaq) y convencional (ACC) y la forma en que cada agricultor adoptó los cambios en sus sistemas. Los cambios de los sistemas derivados de las prácticas adoptadas y de la comercialización siguen más allá de la perspectiva de la agricultura orgánica y se ha comprobado que algunos sistemas son pocos influenciados por las lógicas externas después de la entrada en las cooperativas. Las principales razones son la falta de mano de obra y de capital de trabajo en las cooperativas para el pago inmediato.A produção de cacau orgânico certificado requer alterações significativas nas práticas produtivas e comerciais dos agricultores familiares.  Este trabalho visa estudar as mudanças nas práticas de famílias de produção do cacau orgânico certificado nos municípios paraenses de Pacajá, Brasil Novo e Medicilândia. Foram entrevistadas quarenta e sete agricultores de três cooperativas de produtos orgânicos. Identificou-se o que tem influenciado nas mudanças das práticas produtivas de agricultores familiares em relação à produção de amêndoa de cacau na região, destacando-se quatro lógicas que impulsionaram tais mudanças: a) ênfase na qualidade do produto, b) qualidade atrelada à garantia de retorno financeiro, c) irregularidade nas práticas para produção de amêndoa de boa qualidade, e d) pouco influenciada pelos estímulos do mercado. As diferenças entre as lógicas estão associadas ao tipo de produção da amêndoa, com qualidade (Acoaq) e convencional (ACC) e a forma como cada agricultor adotou as mudanças em seus sistemas. As mudanças dos sistemas decorrentes das práticas adotadas e da comercialização seguem mais a perspectiva da agricultura orgânica, e foi verificado que alguns sistemas são poucos influenciados pelas lógicas externas após a entrada nas cooperativas.
