The use of Test of Basic Scientific Literacy in elementary school students: measurement reliability analysis in this group

Resumo: | Measuring Scientific Literacy allows us to evaluate how this construct can be perceived in the numerous activities that aim to promote it. The Basic Scientific Literacy Test consists of a questionnaire with great potential to measure the level of this concept. However, the literature points out research that makes use of this instrument, which was elaborated for graduates of Basic Education, in elementary school students. Thus, the problem of this study aims to analyze the psychometric characteristics of its items for this target audience, questioning whether the instrument remains valid for this group. The aim of this article is to present the results of a pilot test with 125 students, which generated the analyses to answer this question. The results highlight the discussion about the importance of ensuring the qualities of validity and reliability of the instruments when used in individuals with different school and social characteristics of those in which the questionnaire was elaborated. Its application in other samples of this population is suggested in order to verify the stability of the items and corroborate the theoretical structure of the results obtained. |

El Test de Alfabetización científica Básica consiste en un cuestionario con gran potencial para medir el nivel de este concepto. Sin embargo, la literatura señala la investigación que hace uso de este instrumento, que fue elaborado para los graduados de Educación Básica, en los estudiantes de primaria. Así, el problema de este estudio tiene como objetivo analizar las características psicométricas de sus elementos para este público objetivo, cuestionando si el instrumento sigue siendo válido para este grupo. El objetivo de este artículo es presentar los resultados de una prueba piloto con 125 estudiantes, que generaron los análisis para responder a esta pregunta. Los resultados ponen de relieve la discusión sobre la importancia de garantizar las cualidades de validez y fiabilidad de los instrumentos de investigación, cuando se utilizan en personas con diferentes características escolares y sociales de aquellas en las que el cuestionario fue elaborado. Su aplicación en otras muestras de esta población se sugiere con el fin de verificar la estabilidad de los elementos y corroborar la estructura teórica de los resultados obtenidos.Medir a Alfabetização Científica permite avaliar como este construto consegue ser percebido nas inúmeras atividades que visam promovê-la. O Teste de Alfabetização Científica Básica consiste de um questionário com grande potencial de aferir o nível desse conceito. No entanto, a literatura aponta pesquisas que fazem uso desse instrumento, que foi elaborado para egressos da Educação Básica, em alunos do Ensino Fundamental. Assim, a problemática desse estudo visa analisar as características psicométricas dos seus itens para esse público-alvo, questionando se o instrumento se mantém válido para esse grupo. O objetivo do artigo é apresentar os resultados de um teste piloto com 125 alunos, que gerou as análises para responder a esse questionamento. Os resultados ressaltam a discussão sobre a importância de se assegurar as qualidades de validade e confiabilidade dos instrumentos de pesquisa, quando utilizados em indivíduos com diferentes características escolares e sociais daquelas em que o questionário foi elaborado.
