Resumo: | This paper aims to demonstrate the importance of reading the universal classics to facilitate the comprehension of nowadays problems, especially those related to the work realm and in consequence affecting the education, impacted by the globalization process. The reading of classics such as The Cave by José Saramago, enables the enhancing of the reading skills and favors knowledge widening in many diverse areas. The novel addresses the impact of globalization in the life of a citizen who was excluded from the labor market because he was unprepared for the demandings of the present time. A thorough bibliographic research will be performed as a methodology. From the studies of a classic, the teaching of humanities will be sought, enabling thus the opening for the magical, the poetic and the ludic as tools for personal and professional cultural enrichment. In this sense, Literature opens ways for the interdisciplinarity, allowing each teacher to explore the inherent aspects related to his or her field of expertise and contributing with a dialog promoting activity with other subjects, exploring the same literary text with more than one point of view, contributing to promote a kind of teaching where the integral development of the citizen is intended. |

La lectura de clásicos como La Cueva, de Saramago, posibilita el perfeccionamiento de las habilidades lectoras y favorece la ampliación de los conocimientos en las más diversas áreas. La obra aborda el impacto de la globalización en la vida de un ciudadano que se vio excluido del mercado de trabajo, pues estaba despreparado para las exigencias de los nuevos tiempos. Se utilizará como metodología una investigación bibliográfica. A partir del estudio de un clásico, se buscará el rescate de la enseñanza de las humanidades, propiciando así la apertura a lo mágico, lo poético y lo lúdico como herramientas de enriquecimiento cultural y profesional. En este sentido, la literatura abre caminos para la interdisciplinaridad, permitiendo que cada profesor explore los aspectos inherentes a su área de actuación y contribuya con una actividad promotora del diálogo con las otras disciplinas, explorando el mismo texto literario bajo más de un punto de vista, contribuyendo a un tipo de enseñanza en que se pretenda la formación integral de los ciudadanos.O presente artigo tem por finalidade demonstrar a importância da leitura dos clássicos universais para facilitar a compreensão dos problemas atuais, em especial, àqueles relacionados ao mundo do trabalho e, em decorrência disso, da educação, impactados pelo processo mundial de globalização. A leitura de clássicos como A Caverna, de Saramago, possibilita o aprimoramento das habilidades leitoras e favorece a ampliação dos conhecimentos nas mais diversas áreas. A obra aborda o impacto da globalização na vida de um cidadão que se viu excluído do mercado de trabalho, pois estava despreparado para as exigências dos novos tempos. Utilizar-se-á como metodologia uma pesquisa bibliográfica. A partir do estudo de um clássico, buscar-se-á o resgate do ensino das humanidades, propiciando, assim, a abertura para o mágico, o poético e o lúdico como ferramentas de enriquecimento cultural e profissional.
