Secondary prevention of breast and cervical cancer: action research

Resumo: Introduction: Breast cancer is the type that most affects women worldwide, in Brazil is the most frequent, estimated for the 2018-2019 biennium, 59,700 new cases, while cervical cancer is the fourth most common type. among women, with an estimated 2018-2019 of 16,370 new cases for each year of the biennium, thus the aim of this study was to promote educational interventions aimed at the prevention and early detection of breast and cervical cancer in religious space. Materials and Methods: Action research, using interview and culture circle with 12 evangelical women in a city in the countryside of Maranhão, Brazil. Culture circles promoted dialogues on the themes: what is breast and cervical cancer; disease severity; prevention and diagnosis and were organized to include the reception, coding, decoding and synthesis of the meetings. Results: The following categories emerged: Initial impressions of culture circles; Cancer knowledge; Feelings related to cancer; tests for the diagnosis of breast and cervical cancer; and Decoding knowledge and attitudes about cancer. Discussion: It is possible to prevent breast and cervical cancer by decoding knowledge and attitudes, and it is necessary to adopt strategies that encourage women to seek health services not only in the presence of complaints, but in a preventive and self-care perspective. Conclusions: The dialogue enabled critical unveiling, promoting the adoption of prevention and health promotion practices.

Conclusions: The dialogue enabled critical unveiling, promoting the adoption of prevention and health promotion practices.Introducción: El cáncer de mama es el tipo que más afecta a mujeres en todo el mundo, en Brasil es el más frecuente, estimándose para el bienio 2018-2019, 59.700 casos nuevos, ya el cáncer de cuello uterino, es el cuarto tipo más común entre las mujeres, la estimativa para 2018-2019 es de 16.370 casos nuevos para cada ano del bienio, de esta forma el objetivo de este estudio fue promover intervenciones educativas dirigidas a la prevención y detección precoz del cáncer de mama y de cuello uterino en un espacio religioso. Materiales y Métodos: Investigación-acción, utilizando entrevista y círculo de cultura con 12 mujeres evangélicas en un municipio del interior de Maranhão, Brasil. Los círculos de cultura promovieron diálogos sobre los temas: ¿qué es el cáncer de mama y cuello uterino?; gravedad de la enfermedad; prevención y diagnóstico y fueron organizados de forma que contemplasen la acogida, codificación, descodificación y síntesis de los encuentros. Resultados: Surgieron las categorías: Impresiones iniciales sobre los círculos de cultura; Conocimientos sobre cáncer; Sentimientos relacionados al cáncer; Prubas para el diagnóstico de cáncer de mama y de cuello uterino; y Decodificar conocimientos y actitudes sobre el cáncer. Discusión: Es posible prevenir el cáncer de mama y de cuello uterino descodificando conocimientos y actitudes, siendo necesario adoptar estrategias que incentiven a las mujeres a acudir a los servicios de salud no solamente para presentar quejas, sino con la perspectiva de prevención y de autocuidado. Conclusiones: El diálogo posibilito la divulgación crítica, promoviendo la adopción de prácticas de prevención y promoción de la salud.Introdução: O câncer de mama é o tipo que mais agride mulheres em todo o mundo. No Brasil é o mais frequente, estimado 66.280 casos novos para cada ano do triênio 2020-2022, enquanto, o câncer do colo uterino, é o terceiro tipo mais comum, com estimativa 16.590, para o mesmo período. Desta forma o objetivo deste estudo foi promover intervenções educativas voltadas à prevenção e detecção precoce do câncer de mama e do colo uterino em espaço religioso. Materiais e Métodos: Foi desenvolvido pesquisa-ação, utilizando entrevista e círculo de cultura com 12 mulheres evangélicas em município do interior do Maranhão, Brasil. Os círculos de cultura promoveram diálogos sobre os temas: o que é câncer de mama e colo uterino; gravidade da doença; prevenção e diagnóstico e foram organizados de modo a contemplar o acolhimento, codificação, descodificação e síntese dos encontros. Os resultados foram organizados de acordo com análise de conteúdo. Resultados: Emergiram as categorias: Impressões iniciais sobre os círculos de cultura; Conhecimentos sobre câncer; Sentimentos relacionados ao câncer; Exames para o diagnóstico do câncer de mama e colo uterino; e Descodificando saberes e atitudes sobre o câncer.
