Unpaved back roads: evaluation of traffic conditions on a stretch contained in a community in the Sertão de Pernambuco, Brazil

Resumo: In Brazil, a large part of the road network is still composed of unpaved roads, that is, that does not have the bearing surface covered with asphalt, concrete or polyhedral masonry and even with such socioeconomic importance, the situation of inadequate status is common. traffic conditions on many of these roads. In this sense, the objective of this work was to verify the conditions of an unpaved road located in the municipality of Santa Maria da Boa Vista - PE, starting from the application of the Unsurfaced Road Condition Index (URCI) method. The methodology used consisted of the identification and analysis of pathologies acting on the road surface, verifying the density and severity level presented in each of the defects present, according to the technical manual TM 5-626, reproduced by the US Army Department, allowing , at the end of the analysis, the classification of the condition in which the road is found. This procedure was repeated in all sampling units properly located in sections distributed along the road. At the end of the analyzes, an average URCI value = 59.2 was obtained, thus determining the general classification of the road under analysis as GOOD. The method proved to be easy to implement and can be a good tool option to help manage these roads.

En este sentido, el objetivo de este trabajo fue verificar las condiciones de una vía sin asfaltar ubicada en el municipio de Santa Maria da Boa Vista - PE, a partir de la aplicación del método Índice de Condición Vial No Asfaltada (URCI). La metodología empleada consistió en la identificación y análisis de patologías que actúan en la superficie de la carretera, verificando la densidad y nivel de severidad presentado en cada uno de los defectos presentes, de acuerdo con el manual técnico TM 5-626, reproducido por el Departamento del Ejército de los Estados Unidos, permitiendo , al final del análisis, la clasificación del estado en el que se encuentra la vía. Este procedimiento se repitió en todas las unidades de muestreo debidamente ubicadas en tramos distribuidos a lo largo de la vía. Al final del análisis, se obtuvo un valor URCI promedio = 59.2, determinando así la clasificación general de la vía bajo análisis como BUENA. El método demostró ser fácil de implementar y puede ser una buena opción de herramienta para ayudar a administrar estas carreteras.No Brasil, grande parte da malha rodoviária ainda é composta por estradas não pavimentadas, ou seja, que não possuí a superfície de rolamento revestida por material asfálticos, concreto ou por alvenaria poliédrica e mesmo com tamanha importância socioeconômica, é comum a situação de estado inadequado das condições de trafegabilidade em muita dessas estradas. Nesse sentido, o objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar as condições de uma estrada não pavimentada situada no município de Santa Maria da Boa Vista – PE, partindo da aplicação do método Unsurfaced Road Condition Index (URCI). A metodologia utilizada consistiu na identificação e análise das patologias atuantes na superfície da estrada, verificando a densidade e o nível de severidade apresentados em cada um dos defeitos presentes, conforme o manual técnico TM 5-626, reproduzido pelo Departamento do Exercito dos EUA, possibilitando, ao final da análise, a classificação da condição em que se encontra a via. Esse procedimento foi repetido em todas as unidades amostrais devidamente localizadas em trechos distribuídos ao longo da via. Ao fim das análises, obteve-se um valor de URCI médio = 59,2 determinando, dessa forma, a classificação geral da estrada em análise como BOA.
