Depression and suicide in nursing students and the teaching knowledge about this suffering

Resumo: Introduction: This stud intends to approach the historic of depression and suicide among nursery students and the professional knowledge about these diseases. Depression constitutes itself as a mental suffering and implies in a negative way in the learning process of the students and, besides that, increases the suicide possibility between students with serious levels of depression. Objective: Carry out a bibliographic data survey about the historic of depression and suicide between nursery students and evaluate professor's knowledge and interventions when dealing with this mental suffering. Method: It is a integrative review. Firstly, was formulated the guiding question: "What says the literature about the historic of depression and suicidal ideations between nursery students and which are professor's interventions when dealing with these problems?". Was made surveys in the following data bases: Data bases in nursery, Latin-American and Caribbean literature in Health Science, Portal Capes and Pubmed. After that, was prepared an article's overview with the purpose of synthetize the main relevant informations of these stud. Results and Conclusion: Was observed 20 articles related to the historic of these mental sufferings between nursery students. There are findings that mention both depression and suicide resulted from serious levels of depression. Other data highlights the association of stress and depression symptoms. Few studs mention about professor's interventions when dealing with these problems.

Few studs mention about professor's interventions when dealing with these problems.  Introducción: El estudio busca abordar el recorrido histórico de la depresión y del suicidio entre los académicos de enfermeria y el conocimiento del cuerpo docente acerca de esta realidad. La depresión constituye un sufrimiento mental e interfiere negativamente en el aprendizaje de los estudiantes, además de aumentar la probabilidad de suicidio entre los jóvenes que presentan depresión más severa. Objetivo: Realizar un estudio bibliografico acerca del recorrido histórico de la depresión y el suicidio en los estudiantes de enfermería, además evaluar el conocimiento y las intervenciones de los maestros frente a este sufrimiento mental. Método: Se trata de una Revisión Integradora. Primero, se formuló la cuestión orientadora “¿Qué aborda la literatura acerca del recorrido histórico de la depresión y la ideación suicida entre los alumnos de enfermeria y cuales son las intervenciones realizadas por los profesores ante este problema?”. Posteriormente, fueron realizadas búsquedas en las bases de datos en la area de la Enfermeria, Literatura Latino americana y Caribeña sobre Ciencias de la Salud, Sistema Online de Búsqueda y Análisis de Literatura Médica, Portal Capes y Pubmed. Por fin, se elaboró una imagen sinóptica de los articulos para sintetizar las informaciones más relevantes al estudio. Resultados y Conclusiones: fueron localizados 20 articulos relacionados al recorrido histórico de los sufrimientos mentales en los estudiantes de enfermeria. Hay estudios que mencionan tanto la depresión cuanto el suicidio como resultado de severa depresión entre estos. Otros datos destacan aún la asociación del estrés a los síntomas depressivos. Y raros estudios abordan la intervención de los profesores ante el problema.Introdução: Este estudo pretende abordar o histórico de depressão e suicídio nos acadêmicos de enfermagem e o conhecimento docente sobre este sofrimento psíquico. A depressão constitui-se um sofrimento mental e implica de forma negativa no aprendizado dos alunos além de aumentar a possibilidade do suicídio entre os jovens com depressão grave. Objetivo: Realizar um levantamento bibliográfico sobre o histórico da depressão e suicídio nos discentes de enfermagem e avaliar o conhecimento e intervenções dos docentes diante deste sofrimento mental. Método: Trata-se de uma Revisão Integrativa. Primeiramente, foi formulada a seguinte questão norteadora: “O que a literatura aborda sobre o histórico de depressão e ideações suicidas nos discentes de enfermagem e quais são as intervenções docentes diante dessa problemática?”. Foram realizadas buscas nas bases de dados: base de dados em enfermagem, Literatura Latino-americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde, Sistema Online de Busca e Análise de Literatura Médica, Portal Capes e Pubmed. Posteriormente, foi elaborado o quadro sinóptico dos artigos com o intuito de sintetizar as principais informações relevantes deste estudo. Resultados e Conclusão: Foram encontrados 20 artigos relacionados ao histórico destes sofrimentos mentais nos acadêmicos de enfermagem. Há achados que mencionam tanto depressão quanto o suicídio resultante de depressão grave. Outros dados destacam a associação do estresse e sintomas depressivos.
