Analysis of family grief members in the context of COVID-19: an integrative review

Resumo: The unique circumstances of deaths amidst a pandemic can negatively affect the loss adaptation of relatives COVID-19 victims, favoring the appearance of disorders related to grief. This study is an integrative review that aimed to present another face of mortality from the disease in order to contribute to the reorganization of care services for family members. Were used as databases MEDLINE via PubMed, Europe PubMed Central, Virtual Health Library and Scientific Electronic Library Online. Were included reports published between 2020-2021. As a result of applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 08 studies were selected for bibliometric analysis, methodological topics and content. Studies shown that the characteristic trauma of grief experienced during the pandemic includes multiple deaths, the feeling of helplessness and guilt and the lack of funeral ceremonies. The main results of this review revealed grief related to COVID-19 favors functional impairment contributed functional impairment, in addition to symptoms of pathological grief in the bereaved. The importance of good communication between the health team and family members and the social support found by family members on social networks such as Facebook was also evidenced. It is concluded with the study that the adaptation of families to bereavement had interference of the new circumstances of care and contact with patients imposed by the pandemic.

Este estudio es una revisión integradora que tuvo como objetivo presentar otra cara de la mortalidad por la enfermedad para contribuir a la reorganización de los servicios de atención a los familiares. Se utilizaron las bases de datos MEDLINE vía PubMed, Europe PubMed Central, Biblioteca Virtual en Salud y Scientific Electronic Library Online. Se incluyeron artículos publicados entre 2020-2021. Al final de aplicar los criterios de inclusión y exclusión, ocho estudios fueron seleccionados para análisis bibliométrico, metodológico y de contenido. Los estudios han demostrado que el trauma característico del duelo vivido durante la pandemia está relacionado con las muertes múltiples, el sentimiento de impotencia y culpa experimentado por los familiares y la ausencia de ceremonias fúnebres. Los principales resultados de esta revisión revelaron que el duelo relacionado con COVID-19 contribuyó a el deterioro funcional además de los síntomas de duelo patológico en los dolientes. También se evidenció la importancia de una buena comunicación entre el equipo de salud y los familiares, así como el apoyo social encontrado por los familiares en redes sociales como Facebook. El estudio concluyó que la adaptación de los familiares al duelo fue influenciada por las nuevas circunstancias de cuidado y contacto con el paciente impuestas por la pandemia.As circunstâncias únicas das mortes no contexto da pandemia podem afetar negativamente a adaptação de familiares de vítimas da COVID-19 à perda, favorecendo o aparecimento de transtornos relacionados ao luto. Este estudo é uma revisão integrativa que objetivou apresentar uma outra face da mortalidade pela doença a fim de contribuir para a reorganização dos serviços de atendimento aos familiares. Foram utilizadas as bases de dados MEDLINE via PubMed, Europe PubMed Central, Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde e Scientific Electronic Library Online. Foram incluídos artigos publicados entre 2020 e 2021. Ao final da aplicação dos critérios de inclusão e exclusão, oito estudos foram selecionados para análise bibliométrica, de tópicos metodológicos e de conteúdo. Os estudos mostraram que o trauma característico do luto vivenciado durante a pandemia se relaciona a múltiplas mortes, à sensação de impotência e culpa vivida pelos familiares, bem como à ausência de cerimônias fúnebres. Os principais resultados desta revisão revelaram que o luto relacionado à COVID-19 contribuiu para o comprometimento funcional, além de sintomas de luto patológico nos enlutados. Também foi evidenciada a importância de uma boa comunicação entre equipe de saúde e familiares, assim como do suporte social encontrado por familiares em redes sociais como o Facebook.
