Osteonecrosis of the jaws associated with the use of bisphosphonates: literature review

Resumo: Osteonecrosis of the jaws is a disease due to the presence of necrotic bone, which is exposed in the maxillofacial region, with resistance for more than eight weeks, in patients who use bisphosphonates or anti-resorptive or anti-angiogenic therapies. Thus, the present study contains a literature review, exposing the main conversational factors of osteonecrosis in bisphosphonate users. For this, a bibliographic survey was carried out, with databases from PubMed, SciELO, LILACS and BIREME, between the years 2016 to 2021. With the studies, it was observed that, although there is no definitive protocol for the treatment, the action of preventing and carrying out an early diagnosis reduces the death of patients, with the adoption of correct therapies, which must be carried out with the assistance of a dentist, for an evaluation of each case, providing an effective dental conduct, for all treatments.

Así, el presente estudio contiene una revisión bibliográfica, exponiendo los principales factores de osteonecrosis en usuarios de bisfosfonatos. Por ello, se realizó un levantamiento bibliográfico, con bases de datos de PubMed, SciELO, LILACS y BIREME, entre los años 2016 a 2021. Con los estudios se observó que, aunque no existe un protocolo definitivo para el tratamiento, la acción de prevenir y realizar un diagnóstico precoz reduce la muerte de los pacientes, con la adopción de terapias correctas, que deben ser realizadas con la asistencia de un odontólogo, para una evaluación de cada caso, proporcionando un procedimiento odontológico eficaz, para todos los tratamientos.Osteonecrose dos maxilares é uma doença devido a presença de osso necrosado, que se encontra exposto na região maxilofacial, havendo uma resistência por mais de oito semanas, em pacientes que façam uso do bifosfonatos ou terapias antirreabsortivas ou antiangiogênicas. Assim, o presente estudo contém revisão de literatura, expondo os principais fatores da osteonecrose em usuários de bifosfonatos. Para tanto, realizou-se um levantamento bibliográfico, com bases de dados dos PubMed, SciELO, LILACS e BIREME, entre os anos de 2016 a 2021.
