Popular knowledge, Ethnomatematics and the use of Games for teaching Geometry

Resumo: | It is noticed that the students of the Brazilian public schools have difficulties in relation to the contents of mathematics in general, but this study deals specifically with the contents of geometry, with a focus on popular knowledge and the teaching and learning processes of the sciences , especially mathematics, as a source of differentiated attention in school pedagogical practices. The main scope is the apprehension of mathematical content, with a focus on geometry through emerging methodologies that support the use of games, and are based on popular knowledge, based on Ethnomathematics. The objective is to analyze the popular knowledge of ethnomathematics as a methodological alternative for understanding problems that exist in everyday school life, especially in elementary education, based on the reality of the student. The research was exploratory-descriptive, with a qualitative approach and the prevailing method of action research with empirical analysis. The locus of this study was a Municipal School of Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education in the city of Redenção, in the state of Ceará. The social subjects are students of the 8th year of elementary school. The methodological proposal was made through the use of educational resources (games) aimed at teaching Geometry. The results showed that the use of games brought meaning to the students, subjects of the research, and that, therefore, it is considered that the proposal combined with the game was effective for a more significant teaching of geometry. |

El ámbito principal es la aprehensión de contenidos matemáticos, enfocándose en la geometría a través de metodologías emergentes que apoyan el uso de juegos, y se basan en el conocimiento popular, basado en la Etnomatemática. El objetivo es analizar el conocimiento popular de la Etnomatemática como alternativa metodológica para la comprensión de los problemas que existen en la vida escolar cotidiana, especialmente en la escuela primaria, a partir de la realidad del alumno. La investigación fue exploratoria-descriptiva, con enfoque cualitativo y el método predominante de investigación acción con análisis empírico. El lugar de este estudio fue una Escuela Municipal de Educación Infantil y Educación Primaria en la ciudad de Redenção, en el estado de Ceará. Los sujetos sociales son alumnos de 8º año de primaria. La propuesta metodológica se realizó mediante el uso de recursos educativos (juegos) orientados a la enseñanza de la Geometría. Los resultados mostraron que el uso de juegos aportó significado a los estudiantes, sujetos de investigación, y que, por tanto, se considera que la propuesta combinada con el juego fue efectiva para una enseñanza más significativa de la Geometría.Percebe-se que os discentes das escolas públicas brasileiras apresentam dificuldades em relação aos conteúdos de matemática em geral, mas este estudo, trata-se, especificamente dos conteúdos de geometria, com foco nos saberes populares e os processos de ensino e de aprendizagem das ciências, especialmente da matemática, como fonte de atenção diferenciada nas práticas pedagógicas escolares. Tem-se como escopo principal a apreensão dos conteúdos de matemática, com foco na geometria por meio de metodologias emergentes que se apoiam no uso de jogos, e se fundamentam em saberes populares, abalizados na Etnomatemática. Objetiva-se analisar os saberes populares da Etnomatemática como uma alternativa metodológica para compreensão de problemas existentes no cotidiano escolar, sobretudo no ensino fundamental, a partir da realidade do discente. A pesquisa foi do tipo exploratório-descritiva, de abordagem qualitativa e de método prevalecente de pesquisa-ação com análise empírica. O lócus deste estudo foi uma Escola Municipal de Educação Infantil e Ensino Fundamental na cidade Redenção, no estado do Ceará. Os sujeitos sociais são os alunos do 8.º ano do Ensino Fundamental. A proposta metodológica se deu por meio do uso de recursos educacionais (jogos) voltados para o ensino de Geometria.
