Use of the case study method in vocational and technological education research

Resumo: Among the research methods, the Case Study is one of the most used in qualitative research today. However, research using this method is still viewed with some suspicion by the academic world, receiving criticism due to its lack of rigor and for being in a still evolving phase, thus suffering a shortage of well-defined strategies and techniques. Thus, the objective of this article is to present characteristics of the Case Study, point out advantages and applications in EPT, based on productions of several authors, thus constituting a bibliographic type study. The option to approach the case study modality was based on its wide use in the social sciences, as well as its scope, consisting of a complete process: planning, specific approaches and data analysis. Not just a data collection or research planning tactic. As it is an empirical investigation within a real-life context, it is concluded that the Case Study, if applied correctly, can significantly contribute to research in Vocational and Technological Education.

Sin embargo, la investigación que utiliza este método todavía es vista con cierto recelo por parte del mundo académico, recibiendo críticas por su falta de rigor y por encontrarse en una fase aún en evolución, por lo que sufre escasez de estrategias y técnicas bien definidas. Así, el objetivo de este artículo es presentar características del Estudio de Caso, señalar ventajas y aplicaciones en EPT, a partir de producciones de varios autores, constituyendo así un estudio de tipo bibliográfico. La opción de abordar la modalidad de estudio de caso se basó en su amplio uso en las ciencias sociales, así como en su alcance, consistente en un proceso completo: planificación, enfoques específicos y análisis de datos. No es solo una táctica de recopilación de datos o planificación de la investigación. Por tratarse de una investigación empírica en un contexto de vida real, se concluye que el Estudio de Caso, si se aplica correctamente, puede contribuir significativamente a la investigación en Educación Profesional y Tecnológica.Dentre os mecanismos de pesquisa o Estudo de Caso apresenta-se como um dos mais utilizados em pesquisas qualitativas atualmente. Entretanto, as pesquisas que utilizam este método ainda são vistas com certa desconfiança pelo mundo acadêmico, recebendo críticas devido a sua falta de rigor e por encontrar-se em uma fase ainda evolutiva, sofrendo assim uma escassez de estratégias e técnicas bem definidas. Assim, o objetivo deste artigo é apresentar características do Estudo de Caso, apontar vantagens e aplicações em EPT, baseando-se em produções de vários autores, constituindo-se assim em um estudo tipo bibliográfico. A opção por abordar a modalidade estudo de caso teve como princípio sua ampla utilização nas ciências sociais, bem como sua abrangência, constituído de um processo completo: planejamento, abordagens específicas e análise dos dados. Não configurando apenas como uma tática de coleta de dados ou de planejamento de pesquisa.
