Larvicidal activity of the essential oil of Pimenta dioica Lindl. front larvae of the Aedes aegypti mosquito

Resumo: | This study aimed to evaluate the chemical profile and larvicidal activity of essential oil (EO) extracted from the leaves of Pimenta dioica L. in front of the larvae of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. The EO was extracted by hydrodistillation, with chemical characterization through coupled Gas Chromatography and mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The physicochemical parameters were determined according to the methods described in the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia. The toxicity assay evaluated the lethality of EO against Aedes aegypti. CL50 was calculated for EO action against Aedes aegypti larvae using the Probit method. The larvicidal activity of OE presented mortality at concentrations of 10 to 100 mg L-1 and LC50 of 26,91 mg L-1. The results indicate that the evaluated EO is composed of substances that have a good larvicidal effect against Aedes aegypti,demonstrating its efficiency in combating and controlling the Aedes aegypti mosquito. |

La AE fue extraída por hidrodestestación, con caracterización química a través de cromatografía de gases acoplada y espectrometría de masas (GC-MS). Los parámetros fisicoquímicos se determinaron de acuerdo con los métodos descritos en la Farmacopea Brasileña. El ensayo de toxicidad evaluó la letalidad de la AE contra Aedes aegypti. CL50 se calculó para la acción OE contra las larvas Aedes aegypti utilizando el método Probit. La actividad larvicida de AE presentó mortalidad a concentraciones de 10 a 100 mg de L-1 y LC50 de 26,91 mg L-1. Los resultados indican que la AE evaluada está compuesta de sustancias que tienen un buen efecto larvicida contra Aedes aegypti,demostrando su eficacia en la lucha y control del mosquito Aedes aegypti.Este estudo teve por objetivo avaliar o perfil químico e a atividade larvicida do óleo essencial (OE) extraído das folhas de Pimenta dioica L. frente as larvas do mosquito Aedes aegypti. O OE foi extraído por hidrodestilação, com caracterização química através de Cromatografia Gasosa acoplada e espectrometria de massas (CG-EM). Os parâmetros físico-químicos foram determinados de acordo com os métodos descritos na Farmacopeia Brasileira. O ensaio de toxicidade avaliou a letalidade do OE frente ao Aedes aegypti. Calculou-se a CL50 para ação do OE frente às larvas Aedes aegypti a partir do método de Probit. A atividade larvicida do OE apresentou mortalidade em concentrações de 10 a 100 mgL-1 e a CL50 de 26,91 mg L-1.
