Resumo: Objective: to describe the perceptions on occupational stress of nurses who worked in Intensive Care Units with patients infected with COVID-19. Materials and Methods: a descriptive-exploratory study, of qualitative approach, with 29 nurses working in five Intensive Care Units in Pernambuco, a Northeastern Brazilian State, public and private reference units for COVID-19. The interviews were conducted between May and September 2020, being audio-recorded and later transcribed. The analysis was done using the condensation of meanings. Results: the presence of the themes stress, fear, insecurity, discouragement, unpreparedness, lack of structure and tiredness were noted, with emphasis on the factors: stress and anguish. Nevertheless, they also demonstrated concern with the family, both because of the isolation and the risk of contamination, besides the fear of social isolation. Final Considerations: results evidenced the need to intensify the offer of psychological treatments aimed at the prevention and promotion of mental health of nurses.

Materiales y Métodos: estudio descriptivo-exploratorio, con abordaje cualitativo, con 29 enfermeros que actúan en cinco Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos públicas y privadas de Pernambuco, estado del nordeste de Brasil, de referencia para la COVID-19. Las entrevistas se realizaron entre mayo y septiembre de 2020, siendo grabadas en audio y posteriormente transcritas. El análisis se realizó mediante la condensación de significados. Resultados: se observó la presencia de los temas estrés, miedo, inseguridad, desaliento, despreparación, falta de estructura y cansancio, con énfasis en los factores: estrés y angustia. Sin embargo, también mostraron preocupación por la familia, tanto por el aislamiento como por el riesgo de contaminación, además del miedo al aislamiento social. Consideraciones Finales: se evidenciaron resultados que demostraron la necesidad de intensificar la oferta de tratamientos psicológicos dirigidos a la prevención y la promoción de la salud mental de los enfermeros.Objetivo: descrever as percepções sobre estresse ocupacional de enfermeiros que atuaram em Unidades de Terapia Intensiva com pacientes infectados pela COVID-19. Materiais e Métodos: estudo descritivo-exploratório, de abordagem qualitativa, com 29 enfermeiros atuantes em cinco Unidades de Terapia Intensiva públicas e privadas de referência para a COVID-19 em Pernambuco, Estado do Nordeste brasileiro. As entrevistas foram realizadas entre maio e setembro de 2020, sendo audiogravadas e, posteriormente, transcritas. A análise foi feita utilizando-se a condensação de significados. Resultados: a presença dos temas estresse, medo, insegurança, desestímulo, despreparo, falta de estrutura e cansaço foi constatada, com destaque para os fatores estresse e angústia. Não obstante, demonstrou-se, também, preocupação com a família, tanto pelo fato do isolamento quanto pelo risco de contaminação, além do medo do isolamento social.
