Health education: dialoguing with rural workers about oral cancer

Resumo: Oral cancer is a chronic degenerative disease that can lead to death. Among the risk factors is ultraviolet radiation resulting from sun exposure. People who develop labor activities in external environments, such as field workers in the rural settlement Sítio Aracaju, in the municipality of Iguatu, state of Ceará, are part of the risk group for tumor development. The main objective of the research was to investigate the perception of rural workers about the educational practice in health on the oral cancer theme. This was an action research with a qualitative approach, data collection through a form, unsystematic direct observation and interviews. The educational practice was elaborated based on the presuppositions of integral human formation and health promotion; the first is constituted as the basis of professional and technical education (PTE), while the second focused on autonomy, and the political and social co-responsibility of the subjects involved. The educational practice consisted of a sociocultural approach based on Paulo Freire's popular education and on the pedagogy of the problematization of Juan Díaz Bordenave, using the conversation wheel that was consolidated by Maguerez’s arch. The experience resulted in an extension project with a potential application in several other social realities.

Entre los factores de riesgo se encuentra la radiación ultravioleta resultante de la exposición al sol. Las personas que realizan actividades laborales al aire libre, como los campesinos del asentamiento rural Sítio Aracaju, en la provincia de Iguatu, estado de Ceará, hacen parte del grupo de riesgo para el desarrollo del tumor. El objetivo principal de la investigación fue investigar la percepción de los campesinos sobre la práctica educativa en salud con el tema cáncer bucal. Se realizó una investigación acción con enfoque cualitativo, con colecta de datos a través de un cuestionario, observación directa no sistemática y entrevistas. La práctica educativa se elaboró con los fundamentos de formación humana integral y promoción de la salud; el primero constituye la base de la educación profesional y tecnológica (EPT), mientras que el segundo se centró en la autonomía y la corresponsabilidad política y social de los sujetos involucrados. La práctica educativa consistió en un enfoque sociocultural basado en la educación popular de Paulo Freire y en la pedagogía de la problematización de Juan Díaz Bordenave, utilizando la rueda de conversación que se materializó alrededor del arco de Maguerez. La experiencia resultó en un proyecto de extensión con potencial de aplicación en varias otras realidades sociales.O câncer bucal é uma doença degenerativa crônica que pode levar à morte. Pessoas que desenvolvem atividades laborais em ambientes externos, como os trabalhadores e trabalhadoras rurais do assentamento rural Sítio Aracaju, no município de Iguatu, estado do Ceará, fazem parte do grupo de risco para desenvolvimento do tumor. A pesquisa teve como objetivo principal investigar a percepção dos trabalhadores e trabalhadoras rurais acerca da prática educativa em saúde sobre a temática câncer bucal. Tratou-se de pesquisa-ação de abordagem qualitativa, com coleta de dados por meio de formulário, observação direta assistemática e entrevistas. A prática educativa foi elaborada tendo como pressupostos a formação humana integral e a promoção da saúde; o primeiro se constitui em fundamento da educação profissional e tecnológica (EPT), enquanto o segundo teve como foco a autonomia, e a corresponsabilidade política e social dos sujeitos envolvidos. A prática educativa consistiu numa abordagem sociocultural, fundamentada na educação popular de Paulo Freire e na pedagogia da problematização de Juan Díaz Bordenave, com uso da roda de conversa que se materializou em torno do arco de Maguerez.
