Resumo: The gestational period makes pregnant women prone to a series of systemic and oral alterations. Thus, actions aimed at reducing pregnancy complications and damage to the fetus are extremely relevant, with emphasis on medical and dental prenatal care. In this scenario, it is extremely necessary to demystify beliefs that limit pregnant women to seek prenatal care. The aim of this literature review is to present the systemic and oral alterations in pregnant women, highlighting the importance of medical and dental prenatal care during pregnancy. To do so, a systematic review of the literature was carried out, defined by means of a search strategy in the databases, which leads to a careful analysis of the quality of the literature selected and justifies possible exclusions. The result of the selection of articles showed that the prominent systemic changes include mainly hormonal changes, but also respiratory, cardiovascular, gastric, and in calcium production, which may become severe complications, consequently, these changes influence oral diseases with emphasis on gum diseases, such as gingivitis and periodontal disease, gestational diabetes and its consequences, obstructive dyspnea, mouth breathing, and dental erosion. It is concluded, through the results, that there are several systemic and oral changes during pregnancy, and these should be treated by the doctor and dentist, through dental and systemic prenatal care.

Research, Society and Development2021-03-07info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/1297610.33448/rsd-v10i3.12976Research, Society and Development; Vol. 10 No. 3; e8810312976Research, Society and Development; Vol. 10 Núm. 3; e8810312976Research, Society and Development; v. 10 n. 3; e88103129762525-3409reponame:Research, Society and Developmentinstname:Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)instacron:UNIFEIporhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/12976/11763Copyright (c) 2021 Jeniffer Urbano Degasperi; Anna Julia Wunsch Dias; Daniela de Cassia Faglioni Boleta-Cerantohttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessDegasperi, Jeniffer Urbano Dias, Anna Julia Wunsch Boleta-Ceranto, Daniela de Cassia Faglioni 2021-03-28T12:03:35Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/12976Revistahttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/indexPUBhttps://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/oairsd.articles@gmail.com2525-34092525-3409opendoar:2024-01-17T09:34:24.739619Research, Society and Development - Universidade Federal de Itajubá (UNIFEI)false
