The meanings attributed by women to the scar resulting from open heart surgery: An occupational therapeutic look

Resumo: | Introduction: Cardiac surgeries are complex therapies that involve changes in the subject's life. These changes imply changes in routine, self-esteem and self-image, especially in women. Occupational Therapy, which has the ability to assess and understand the subject in all contexts in which it is inserted, helps women in post-cardiac surgery. Objective: To understand the meanings attributed by women to the scar resulting from open heart surgery, under an occupational therapeutic perspective. Methodology: This is a descriptive and exploratory research, with a qualitative approach. It was performed at the Dr. Carlos Alberto Studart Gomes hospital - Hospital do Coração de Messejana, in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil, from October 2020 to January 2021. Five women who underwent open heart surgery, participated in the study. between 23 and 50 years old. The study on screen had the technique of collecting information as an individual and structured interview and as a method of analysis the content, in the thematic analysis modality. Results: The research generated four nuclei of meaning for a broader discussion, namely: The stigma of heart disease; Spiritual support; The fear of dependence on ADLs; The resignification of the scar. Conclusion: The women participating in the research showed a resilience of paramount importance, where they understood that the body is their temple, which needs to be recognized and taken care of. |

Estos cambios implican cambios en la rutina, la autoestima y la autoimagen, especialmente en las mujeres. La Terapia Ocupacional, que tiene la capacidad de evaluar y comprender el tema en todos los contextos en los que se inserta, ayuda a las mujeres en el posoperatorio cardíaco. Objetivo: Comprender los significados que las mujeres atribuyen a la cicatriz resultante de la cirugía a corazón abierto, bajo una perspectiva terapéutica ocupacional. Metodología: Se trata de una investigación descriptiva y exploratoria, con enfoque cualitativo. Se llevó a cabo en el hospital Dr. Carlos Alberto Studart Gomes - Hospital do Coração de Messejana, en Fortaleza, Ceará, Brasil, de octubre de 2020 a enero de 2021. Participaron del estudio cinco mujeres que se sometieron a cirugía a corazón abierto. 50 años de edad. El estudio en pantalla contó con la técnica de recolección de información como entrevista individual y estructurada y como método de análisis del contenido, en la modalidad de análisis temático. Resultados: La investigación generó cuatro núcleos de significado para una discusión más amplia, a saber: El estigma de la enfermedad cardíaca; Soporte espiritual; El miedo a la dependencia de las ADL; La resignificación de la cicatriz. Conclusión: Las mujeres que participaron en la investigación mostraron una resiliencia de suma importancia, donde entendieron que el cuerpo es su templo, que necesita ser reconocido y cuidado.Introdução: As cirurgias cardíacas são terapêuticas complexas que envolvem transformações na vida do sujeito. Essas mudanças implicam em alteração na rotina, na autoestima e na autoimagem principalmente nas mulheres. A Terapia Ocupacinal possuindo habilidade para avaliar e compreender o sujeito em todos os contextos em que está inserido, auxilia a mulher no pós cirúrgico cardíaco. Objetivo: Compreender os significados atribuídos pela mulher à cicatriz consequente à cirurgia cardíaca de peito aberto, sob um olhar terapêutico ocupacional. Metodologia: Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva e exploratória, com abordagem qualitativa. Foi realizado no hospital Dr. Carlos Alberto Studart Gomes – Hospital do Coração de Messejana, em Fortaleza, Ceará, Brasil, no período de outubro de 2020 a janeiro de 2021. Participaram do estudo cinco mulheres que realizaram cirurgia cardíaca de peito aberto, com idade entre 23 e 50 anos. O estudo em tela teve como técnica de coleta de informações a entrevista individual e estruturada e como método de análise a de conteúdo, na modalidade análise temática. Resultados: A pesquisa gerou quatro núcleos de sentido para uma discussão mais ampla, sendo eles: O estigma da cardiopatia; Suporte espiritual; O medo da dependência nas AVD; A ressignificação da cicatriz.
