Knowledge of nursing students in tracking and initial diagnosis of cervical cancer

Resumo: | The objective of the research was to analyze the knowledge of undergraduate nursing students about screening and early diagnosis of cervical cancer. This was a cross-sectional study, with a quantitative approach, carried out with 112 students from a public institution of higher education in Paraíba. The instrument used was a structured questionnaire. For the bivariate analysis, the Epi Info 7.2.2.2 software was used, Pearson's chi square and Fisher's exact tests were applied. It was observed that students who were in group 2, those who had the opportunity to provide assistance to women and those who participated in some extracurricular activity demonstrated greater knowledge about the subject investigated. The participants had more expressive knowledge about screening than about early diagnosis. The study indicates the need for investment in the training process of nurses to expand and qualify knowledge about cervical cancer. |

Fue un estudio transversal con un enfoque cuantitativo, realizado con 112 estudiantes de una institución pública de educación superior en Paraíba. El instrumento utilizado fue un cuestionario estructurado. Para el análisis bivariado, se utilizó el software Epi Info 7.2.2.2, el chi cuadrado de Pearson y se aplicaron las pruebas exactas de Fisher. Resultados: se observó que los estudiantes que estaban en el grupo 2, aquellos que tuvieron la oportunidad de brindar asistencia a mujeres y aquellos que participaron en alguna actividad extracurricular demostraron un mayor conocimiento sobre el tema investigado. Conclusión: los participantes tenían un conocimiento más expresivo sobre el cribado que sobre el diagnóstico precoz. El estudio indica la necesidad de invertir en el proceso de capacitación de las enfermeras para ampliar y calificar el conocimiento sobre el cáncer de cuello uterino.O objetivo da pesquisa foi de analisar o conhecimento de discentes do curso de graduação em Enfermagem acerca do rastreio e diagnóstico precoce do câncer do colo do útero. Tratou-se de um estudo transversal, de abordagem quantitativa, realizado com 112 discentes de uma instituição pública de ensino superior da Paraíba. O instrumento utilizado foi um questionário estruturado. Para a análise bivariada utilizou-se o software Epi Info 7.2.2.2, foram aplicados os testes Qui quadrado de Pearson e Exato de Fisher. Observou-se que os(as) discentes que estavam no grupo 2, os(as) que tiveram a oportunidade de prestar assistência à mulher e os(as) que participaram de alguma atividade extracurricular demonstraram maior conhecimento acerca da temática investigada. Os(as) participantes possuíam conhecimento mais expressivo sobre rastreio do que sobre o diagnóstico precoce.
