Resumo: This article aims to present the traditional knowledge from an amazon community about the use of Mexican mint plant as a health alternative complement and insert this knowledge in a curricular proposal for basic education. In order that, it was necessary to do a qualitative descriptive research for knowledge survey about the use of the plant, 25 key informants in Caeté Basin participated in interviews, observations and a standardized form, besides vegetal sampling was collected for botanic identification. Plectranthus amboinicus Lour widely known as “Hortelã Grande” in Camutá is used to treat respiratory complications through its leaves. The species has chemical compounds as carvacrol and thymol that has mycrobial, fungitoxic and antitumor activities. This traditional and scientific knowledge enabled the construction of a curricular proposal that involves the subjects Portuguese Language, Geography and History, Religious Education, Sciences and Mathematics through the web of knowledge in Paulo Freire.

En este sentido, fue necesario realizar una investigación cualitativa de rasgo descriptivo para el levantamiento de lo conocimiento local sobre el uso de la planta. Fueron elegidos 25 informantes clave en la cuenca del rio Caeté, ubicada en el noreste del estado de Pará, Brasil. Estos sujetos participaron de entrevistas, observaciones y de la aplicación de un formulario estandarizado, además de que se recolectaron muestras vegetales para la identificación botánica. En Camutá-PA, la Plectranthus amboinicus Lour, generalmente conocida como la "gran menta", es utilizada para el tratamiento de complicaciones respiratorias, a través del uso de sus hojas. La especie tiene compuestos químicos como carvacrol y timol, que tienen actividades microbianas, fungitóxicas y antitumoral. Estos conocimientos tradicionales y científicos han hecho el posible para la construcción de una propuesta curricular, que involucra las asignaturas de Lengua portuguesa, Geografía e Historia, Educación Religiosa, Ciencias y Matemáticas a través de la red de conocimiento en Paulo Freire.Este artigo tem como objetivo apresentar os saberes tradicionais de uma comunidade amazônica sobre o uso da planta “Hortelã Grande”, como alternativa complementar de saúde e inserir esses saberes em uma proposta curricular para a Educação Básica. Para tanto, foi necessário realizar uma pesquisa qualitativa do tipo descritiva, para levantamento do conhecimento local sobre o uso da planta, tendo sido acessado 25 informantes-chave, moradores da Bacia do Caeté, no Estado do Pará, por meio de entrevistas, observações e aplicação de um formulário padronizado, além da coleta de amostra vegetal para identificação botânica. Em Camutá-PA, a Plectranthus amboinicus Lour, popularmente conhecida como “Hortelã Grande” é usada no tratamento de complicações respiratórias, utilizando-se as folhas. A espécie possui compostos químicos como carvacrol e timol que possuem atividades microbianas, fungitóxicas e antitumoral.
