Challenges and strategies used by nurses in an Intensive Care Unit infected by the Coronavirus

Resumo: Objective: To analyze the challenges and strategies used by nurses in an Intensive Care Unit who were infected by coronavirus. Method: Qualitative, exploratory and descriptive study. Data collection took place from November 2021 to January 2022, through semi-structured interviews in an online format with 14 nurses from an Intensive Care Unit who were infected by the virus. The data was subjected to Content Analysis, two categories emerging: Challenges of nurses contaminated by coronavirus and Strategies used by nurses contaminated by coronavirus. Results: The challenges verbalized by the interviewees were: social isolation, return to work and post-illness syndrome. The strategies used were: online contact with family members, well-being practices and therapy. Final Considerations: The experiences of this period were transformative for the study subjects, as in the position of patient, they experienced feelings that had not been experienced before, qualifying the nursing care provided to this type of patient.

Método: Estudio cualitativo, exploratorio y descriptivo. La recolección de datos se realizó de noviembre de 2021 a enero de 2022, a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas en formato online a 14 enfermeros de una Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos que fueron infectados por el virus. Los datos fueron sometidos a Análisis de Contenido, surgiendo dos categorías: Desafíos de los enfermeros contaminados por coronavirus y Estrategias utilizadas por los enfermeros contaminados por coronavirus. Resultados: Los desafíos verbalizados por los entrevistados fueron: aislamiento social, reincorporación al trabajo y síndrome post-enfermedad. Las estrategias utilizadas fueron: contacto online con familiares, prácticas de bienestar y terapia. Consideraciones finales: Las vivencias de este período fueron transformadoras para los sujetos de estudio, ya que en la posición de paciente, vivieron sentimientos que no habían sido experimentados antes, calificando el cuidado de enfermería brindado a ese tipo de paciente.Objetivo: Analisar os desafios e estratégias utilizadas por enfermeiros de uma Unidade de Terapia Intensiva que foram contaminados por coronavírus. Método: Estudo qualitativo, exploratório e descritivo. A coleta de dados ocorreu de Novembro de 2021 a Janeiro de 2022, através de entrevistas semiestruturadas em formato online com 14 enfermeiros de uma Unidade de Terapia Intensiva que foram contaminados pelo vírus. Os dados foram submetidos à Análise de Conteúdo, emergindo duas categorias: Desafios dos enfermeiros contaminados por coronavírus e Estratégias utilizadas pelos enfermeiros contaminados pelo coronavírus. Resultados: Os desafios verbalizados pelos entrevistados foram: isolamento social, retorno ao trabalho e Síndrome pós-doença. Já as estratégias utilizadas foram: contato online com familiares, práticas para o bem-estar e terapia.
