Implementation of education for sustainability in the Elementary School: a review

Resumo: Scarce approach to sustainability in basic education will have a significant impact on the prosperous and sustainable future of humanity. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyze research articles on the implementation of education for sustainability (EfS) in elementary education, published after the approval of 2030 until March 2020. For that, systematic searches were carried out in the SciELO, Google Scholar and ERIC databases, using exclusion processes in several stages, which ended in 10 revised articles. The results pointed to the existence of gaps in the literature on the ways in which EfS has been approached in the context of the elementary school classroom, despite its importance in the current unsustainable situation on the planet. The analyzed articles consider EfS important, because it contributes to change knowledge, values and attitudes towards a sustainable future; moreover, they show difficulties in implementing EfS in everyday educational practices, due to the complexity of implementation, in addition to resistance by some teachers to innovate in educational practice. Therefore, this review can be useful, for informing the current educational approaches related to the implementation of sustainability in elementary education, as well as for proposing innovative practices of EfS at this level of education.

Por lo tanto, el objetivo de este estudio es analizar artículos de de investigación sobre la implementación de la educación para la sostenibilidad (EpS) en la educación primaria, publicados después de la aprobación de la Agenda 2030 hasta marzo de 2020. Para este propósito, se realizaron búsquedas sistemáticas en las bases de datos SciELO, Google Scholar y ERIC, utilizando procesos de exclusión en varias etapas, que terminaron en 10 artículos revisados. Los resultados apuntan a la existencia de lagunas en la literatura sobre las formas en que se ha abordado EpS en el contexto del aula de la escuela primaria, a pesar de su importancia en la actual situación insostenible en el planeta. Los artículos analizados consideran EpS importante, porque contribuye a cambiar el conocimiento, los valores y las actitudes hacia un futuro sostenible; Además, muestran dificultades para implementar EpS en las prácticas educativas cotidianas, debido a la complejidad de la implementación, además de la resistencia de algunos maestros a innovar en la práctica educativa. Por lo tanto, esta revisión puede ser útil para informar los enfoques educativos actuales relacionados con la implementación de la sostenibilidad en la educación primaria, así como para proponer prácticas innovadoras de EpS en este nivel de educación.Escassa abordagem sobre sustentabilidade na educação básica trará impacto significativo para um futuro próspero e sustentável da humanidade. Portanto, o objetivo do presente estudo é analisar artigos de pesquisa sobre a implementação da educação para a sustentabilidade (EpS) no ensino fundamental, publicados após a aprovação da Agenda 2030 até março de 2020. Para tanto, realizou-se buscas sistematizadas nas bases SciELO, Google Scholar e ERIC, utilizando-se de processos de exclusão em diversas etapas, que findaram em 10 artigos revisados. Os resultados apontaram para a existência de lacunas nas literaturas sobre as maneiras de como a EpS vem sendo abordada no contexto da sala de aula do ensino fundamental, apesar da sua importância perante a atual situação de insustentabilidade do planeta. Os artigos analisados consideram importante a EpS, devido contribuir para mudar conhecimentos, valores e atitudes rumo a um futuro sustentável; além do mais, mostram dificuldades na implementação de EpS nas práticas educativas cotidianas, devido à complexidade de implementação, além de resistência por partes de alguns professores em inovar na prática educacional.
