The indissociability of teaching, research and extension: a practical issue

Resumo: This article aims to affirm the role of the university in modern and contemporary social contexts. Methodologically, the article articulates insights from life experiences in university teaching, with a theoretical background capable of indicating the relevance of associating teaching, research and extension as a practical issue, in which epistemic, ethical-political and pedagogical dimensions are involved. As a result of its reflexive process, the challenge to preserve the best of universalism and sensitivity to the real arises, not succumbing to the simplistic vision of education, which is reduced to the specialization and technification demanded by the market. It points to the risk of succumbing to the pauperization of thought and to the erasure of critical capacity due to our inability to understand the world in which we live. It concludes that the procedural character of all knowledge and the radical historicity of any solution to our problems does not allow us to reach definitive solutions, but that we can understand ourselves, even partially, about what is the best solution, given the legal frameworks, the context and the subjects involved. The social legitimacy of university work depends on this ability.

El artículo articula, metodológicamente, insights de experiencias de vida en la enseñanza universitaria, con un referencial teórico capaz de indicar la pertinencia de asociar la enseñanza, la investigación y la extensión como una cuestión práctica, en la cual se implican dimensiones epistémicas, ético-políticas y pedagógicas. Resulta de su proceso reflexivo el desafío de conservar el mejor del universalismo y de la sensibilidad demandadas por el mercado. El texto señala el riesgo de, pela incapacidad de comprender el mundo en que vivimos, nos sucumbir al empobrecimiento del pensamiento y al borrado de la capacidad crítica. Se concluye que el carácter procesual de todo el conocimiento y de la historicidad radical de cualquier solución a nuestros problemas no nos permite llegar a soluciones definitivas, pero nos muestra que podemos nos entender, mismo que parcialmente, sobre cuál es la mejor solución, dados los marcos legales, el contexto y los sujetos involucrados. La legitimidad social del trabajo universitario depende de esta capacidad.Objetiva-se, com este artigo, afirmar o papel da universidade nos contextos sociais modernos e contemporâneos. Metodologicamente, o artigo articula insights de experiências de vida no ensino universitário, com um referencial teórico capaz de indicar a pertinência de associar ensino, pesquisa e extensão como uma questão prática, na qual implicam-se dimensões epistêmicas, ético-políticas e pedagógicas. Resulta de seu processo reflexivo o desafio de conservar o melhor do universalismo e da sensibilidade diante do real, não sucumbindo à visão simplória da educação, reduzida à especialização e à tecnificação demandadas pelo mercado. O texto acena para o risco de, pela incapacidade de compreender o mundo em que vivemos, sucumbirmos à pauperização do pensamento e ao apagamento da capacidade crítica. Conclui-se que o caráter processual de todo conhecimento e a historicidade radical de qualquer solução aos nossos problemas não nos permite chegar a soluções definitivas, mas mostra-nos que podemos nos entender, mesmo que parcialmente, acerca do que seja a melhor solução, dados os marcos legais, o contexto e os sujeitos envolvidos.
